Interactions that seem like bugs but are working as intended.
So there's a few things that pop up every now and then as bugs when they're not actually bugs. So I thought I'd create a thread containing these so people can know that they're working correctly.

Also check out the official FAQ here.[handelabra.com]

  1. Sub-Zero Atmosphere and villains with EoT (end of turn) card plays.
    • If Sub-Zero Atmosphere is played against villains with EoT card plays (Current: Voss(advanced), Omnitron.) Then Sub-Zero Atmosphere will move that play to the start of turn, this means that Omnitron's components and EPE will fire off and Voss's Forced Deployment will immediately deploy Voss's trash if they're the first cards played in the villain turn.
  2. Explosives Wagon buffing itself during it's destruction effect.
    • Cards with on destruction effects are still considered in play whilst their destruction effect is resolving, so Explosives Wagon will buff itself whilst it's exploding.
  3. Precognition/Infrared Eyepiece setting off Ambuscade's traps.
    • Ambuscade's traps are set off if they're the top card of the deck, even if it's due to reveal effects.
  4. Cryo Bot not dealing damage when destroyed.
    • When Cryo Bot is destroyed the destruction takes precedence as his effect is an 'on damage' effect and not an 'on destruction' effect, so when the game goes to deal Cryo Bot's damage to all enemy targets he isn't there to deal the damage anymore.
  5. Grease Gun not preventing damage from Falling Statuary/Toxic Seaweed/Primordial Plant Life/ect.
    • Grease Gun prevents damage from non-hero targets, if it doesn't have hp it isn't a target so it can still deal damage.
  6. Wrest the Mind cannot be attached to The Operative
    • Wrest the Mind cannot be attached to character cards, a character card is defined (loosely) as "Any card that doesn't have the same back as the rest of the deck". The Operative is therefore a character card and an invalid target for Wrest the Mind. Character Cards don't have to be targets either.
  7. The Chairman has 26 cards in the trash.
    • If the Chairman is destroyed before the Operative then the Chairman enters the trash pile (unlike Omnitron who's removed from the the game when defeated), meaning that their can be 26 cards in the villain deck at that point.

It also means that the Chairman can be played after the villain deck is reshuffled effectively undoing your hard work.
  8. Mr. Fixer doesn't deal damage to himself (or other heroes) with Jack Handle whilst infected.
    • Jack Handle lists that instead of the damage he would deal, he deals it to all non-hero targets. So whilst he has Jack Handle out he's incapable of hitting any hero targets.
  9. The Chairman came back from the dead!
    • I did mention this in number 7, but if The Chairman is defeated before The Operative he goes to the trash and can be replayed after a reshuffle like any other villain card. Be careful out there.
  10. The Chairman and The Operative gain nemesis bonus when attacking each other.
    • The Nemesis bonus applies when any target with a Nemesis symbol deals damage to another target with the same Nemesis symbol regardless of which side they're on.
  11. Mr. Fixer's Dual Crowbars gets damage bonuses twice on the second hit.
    • Due to a recent change in the rulings Dual Crowbars now uses the damage dealt on the first hit as the base damage for the second hit.
  12. The Operative doesn't go under Savage Mana when destroyed by Haka.
    • When the Operative (or any hero card) is destroyed she flips instead of being destroyed, this action prevents Savage Mana from putting their card under itself. Curiously however The Chairman can be put under Savage Mana with no trouble when he's destroyed.
  13. Twist the Ether asks about damage type before and after redirection.
    • Every time damage is redirect all modifers are reapplied, this means that you'll need to choose the type of damage again from Twist the Ether as well as whether to boost or lower the damage.
For fun you can use Twist the Ether to lower damage low enough for Mr. Fixer to redirect it, then increase it after the redirection.
  14. Skipping turns allows you to keep ongoings in play.
    • Start of turn cards are resolved in the order they were played, so if a card that allows you to skip your turn (Self Destruct Sequence, ect.) is played, then you play a card that would be destroyed at the start of your turn (Ground Pound, Heroic Interception, Guise's Ongoings, ect.) you can keep them in play by using the effect that skips your turn.
    • This however doesn't work if you played the ongoing before the environment card that lets you skip your turn as it would resolve it's start of turn effect before the environment card.
  15. Cards under other cards can still be destroyed.
    • Cards that are placed underneath other cards are still considered in play, whilst the act of placing them underneath other cards removes all their text they are still considered cards from the deck they were played, so an environment card under Savage Mana is still an Environment card so it can be destroyed by anything that hits all environment cards.

Again, this will work in reverse so playing End of Days against La Capitian (Shattered Timelines folks) will result in all the hero cards she has stolen being destroyed and forcing her to flip back.
  16. Making Spite Agent of Gloom play a card to save Good Samaritan/destroy Twisting Back Alleys doesn't work.
    • If the card played is Lab Raid then Spite Agent of Glooms effect discards it before it would be played, therefore no card was played and the effects don't trigger.
  17. Retribution damage is dealt when a target deals damage to itself.
    • Retribution damage doesn't discriminate, the damage is dealt whether the target dealing the damage is an enemy, ally or themselves. This can lead to amusing situations when the Chairman hits himself thanks to Tachyon and then hits himself again due to his retribution damage.
  18. Mr. Fixers tools don't bounce back to the hand whilst Fixed Point is out.
    • Indestructable cards in Sentinels cannot be removed from the field by any effect so the only cards that can leave play whilst Fixed Point is out are One-Shots and limted cards already in play as these don't actually hit the field.
  19. Apostate still flip whilst Fixed Point is out.
    • Apostates flip effects both state "When this card is reduced to 0 or less HP..." as such, because they are still reduced to 0 or less HP even whilst Fixed Point is out they still flip.
  20. The Ultimate Target isn't destroyed when the target it's attached to leaves play.
    • The Ultimate Target doesn't have any instructions about what to do when the target it's attached to isn't there so it remains in play afterwards. Chrono-Ranger can destroy it himself with his hat though.
    • Similar behaviour will occur in Wrath of the Cosmos with Captain Cosmic's constructs and Sky-Scrapers Links.
  21. Freedom 6 Tempest can destroy cards under La Capitan.
    • Cards under other cards have no text but still belong to their original deck, therefore Freedom 6 Tempest can destroy his cards even when they're under other cards.
  22. End of Days can destroy cards under La Capitan and The Dreamer but not under Mad Bomber Baron Blade.
    • Cards underneath other cards are still in play so can be targeted for destruction and will be destroyed by End of Days or any card that can destroy any non-character cards. Baron Blade however makes cards under his card indestructable on his front side so End of Days can't destroy them.
  23. End of Days destroys Relics under other cards.
    • Any card under another card is considered completely blank by any other card, this includes the cards keywords so relics under another card are not considered relics.
  24. Additional Power uses keep vanishing.
    • This occurs with Expatriette and America's Greatest Legacy, When you go into the power phase of your turn the amount of powers you can use is set, any power you use, even a free one granted by another power reduces this count. This means that if you play Unload then fire Pride and use Pride's power to fire Predjudice it counts as 2 of your availible power usages. A similar thing can happen if you use Greatest Legacy's base power on himself first whilst Legacy Ring is out.
  25. I can't attach Energy Bracer to Heroic Infinitor
    • Heroic Infinitor is a Hero Target but remains a Villain Character, not a Hero Character Card, so cards that specify Hero Character Card can't be used on him.
  26. Kaagra won even though I had more Favor than her.
    • The heroes can't beat Kaagra if Kaagra is on her Eager Combatant side (if she has HP you can't win) until she is flipped back to her Bloodsworn Master side. This restriction doesn't apply to villains however allowing her to win by gaining 20+ favor even if the heroes have well over 20.
  27. Lemme See That stops the attached equipment affecting it's owner.
    • Lemme See That changes every instance of text on the card that mentions the owners name to Guise. This means that the card is now the property of Guise and the original owner cannot use it until Lemme See That is destroyed.Who probably would have sucked with it. Guise deserves all the equipment because of this - Not the totally awesome Guise.
  28. Shinobi Assassin doesn't count as destroyed when destroyed.
    • Shinobi Assassin's effect prevents it's destruction and puts it on top of a hero deck so anything that responds to environment cards being destroyed won't respond to Shinobi Assassin being destroyed.
  29. Natural Born Vigor isn't destroying itself.
    • Natural Born Vigor only destroys itself if you heal 4 or more hp.
  30. Sentinel Tactics triggers before Fling Into Darkness's second effect.
    • Sentinel Tactics is triggered as soon as a member of The Sentinels deals damage allowing you to deal extra damage before the check for less than 4 HP, this is similar to how cards like Bee Bot and Illusionary Demon can destroy End of Days before it finishes destroying everything.
  31. Moving my draw phase to before I play cards or use powers allows me to draw 2 cards.
    • The rules for drawing are if you haven’t played a card or used a power before your draw phase you may draw 2 cards. So if a card like concordant helm allows you to move your draw phase to the start of your turn you can draw 2 cards immediately.
  32. Using Wraith's stun bolts in OblivAeon then putting Wraith and the target in separate battle zones removes the damage reduction.
    • Cards in one battle zone cannot affect the other battle zone in any way unless they expressly say so, even if the card in question has an effect tied to damage, if the character dealing the damage is separated from the target the effect drops off. (This also goes for most of Mr. Fixers effects)
  33. I have a card from another hero in my hand, when I play it the other hero gets all the benefits, even where it says things like "You may draw a card"
    • With very few exceptions ( Hey, hey, hey, he's talking about number 27, From Not Guise), no matter where a card is it's considered a part of the deck it was played from, and unless it says otherwise only that deck benefits from the card.
  34. Crackjaw Crew and Quetzalcoatl don't get their additional effects against the Void Guard.
    • The Crackjaw Crew and Quetzalcoatl only get their additional effects if a deck called The Sentinels is in play, the Void Guard are not The Sentinels although they are the same characters.
  35. Take Time from La Commadora's deck, doesn't allow card draw when used to destroy The Ennead.
    • Take Time only triggers the draw when a target is destroyed, most effects that flip cards on destruction take place instead of being destroyed, so the card isn't destroyed, no destruction, no draw.
  36. Dual Crowbars and Multi-target attacks
    • When an attack affected by Dual Crowbars hits multiple targets, it will first hit all targets then Dual Crowbars will allow you to hit one target that wasn't the first target hit and will use the first targets damage as it's base. This is different to how it interacts with multiple hits on one target where it will trigger after each hit.

I'll keep the list updated with any others that crop up.

Interactions that are Bugs

  1. Playing a card from Mad Bomber Blades deck doesn't destroy Twisting Back Alleys if it's a target. Fixed 23/4/15 patch 1.3.4
  2. Hasty Augmentations +2 doesn't work with Jack Handle. Fixed 23/4/15 patch 1.3.4

Thanks, bluedarkyugi! It's nice to have these all in one place. We have some of these on the FAQ on our website, but it's great to see them here as well, initiated by a player. :)

Bet people thought I'd forgotten about this, added number 5. Grease Gun not preventing damage and number 6. Wrest the Mind cannot be attached to the Operative.

When fighting Mad Bomber Baron Blade in Rook City, the Twisting Back Alleys card may not be easily destroyed. If you choose "at the end of the environment turn, players may play the top card of the villain and environment decks", and the top card of the villain deck is such that it gets put under the Baron (e.g., a minion), it does not count as a card played and the Twisting Back Alleys are not destroyed. This was very painful to learn..

hmm, Can we get someone to confirm this interaction is correct?

EDIT, not saying that you didn't see what you did see, I want confirmation that this is the correct interaction and not a bug.

Oh, I'd be really happy if someone confirms this as a bug - MBB/Rook City matches would be much less frustrating :) I think this is what MBB card text means ("cards ... are not considered in play"), but I have been wrong before and it would be good to get some sort of official confirmation.
bluedarkyugi Apr 19, 2015 @ 11:26am
Yes but the target still enters play, so it should count towards anything that needs a villain card play.

I'm going to nip onto the GtG forum and ask there to get some confirmation

Seems to me like it's probably a bug, but we'll make sure. It's a different situation than Spite's flipped side for instance.

Ok then, here's one I'd like to know about... Unity's Hasty Augmentation does not appear to work with DW Fixer w/ Jack Handle. I was so very looking forward to clubbing Voss's redeployment.

Hasty Augmentation should work with DW Fixer and Jack Handle, what happened instead?

Yep, the Mad Bomber Blade + Twisting Back Alleys problem is a bug. It will be fixed in the next update. Good find!

There is a bug where Hasty Augmentation's +2 does not work with Jack Handle. It will be fixed in the next update.
