Sentinels of the Multiverse
Weekly One-Shot, December 5th: Rise of the Robots
Omnitron-U, Chrono-Ranger, Freedom Six Unity, Freedom Six Bunker, and Freedom Six Absolute Zero vs. Cosmic Omnitron in Omnitron-IV.

A return to the realm of Mint for me, though it was very, very close and required bursting down Omnitron's final 40 HP in one round. Unity stood no chance, but the other four heroes survived at 5, 7, 3, and 3 HP.

Omnitron-U was the MVP. Reducing projectile damage to him was the only reason he survived, and keeping components out from the mid-game to the very end kept Cosmitron from burying us in drones. Having Innervation Ray out for a while was the only reason Bunker survived. Having both irreducible fire cannons out on the final turn allowed AZ to heal just enough to let loose a 12-damage Thermal Shockwave to finish the job, and Omni-U was also able to play Self-Sabotage off-turn (thanks, Unity!) to deal 20 damage to his nemesis (3 component destructions for 4 each + 8 from Self-Sabotage).

A nod to Chrono-Ranger for also helping to keep folks alive - I chose to have the Neuro-Toxin Dart Thrower out for much of the match, which kept CR's damage down, but allowed me to more easily circumvent Adaptive Plating and kept Cosmitron's flip damage down a bit.

Surprised no one started a thread yet.

Omni-ception...yay... I was trying to prevent Omni-2 from flipping by keeping a component out, but the environment had other ideas. Held off flipping for turns 2 and 3, but he flipped turn 4. Fortunately, a massive drone wave did not occur. Managed to flip him back to front side and he stayed there.

Managed to make some in roads with chrono's bounties and nemesis damage. Unity got 2 platform bots out. AZ was trying to build up to both modules plus thermal shockwaves, but his modules was usually the first choice for equipment destruction from the environment. Had an interesting turn or two where 2 copies of adaptive subroutine was in play. Chrono wasn't amused, but this team has a nice variety so it only slowed things down a bit. Then a sedative flachette hit. Bye bye platform bots, bounties, etc. Now the adaptive sub were especially annoying since I was going straight from chrono's projectile to Bunker's. Went ahead and got rid of them with a temporal grenade and Bunker's base power.

Then the 2nd sedative flachette hit. Ooof. That incapped Unity and brought everyone else to near single digits. Omni-2 was still around 40-50 and his drones were colluding with the environment drones. Fortunately, one of Unity's incap abilities could take out a any drone and everyone else had enough damage for the others, but things weren't looking good.

Then I got an idea. Did some math and realized I could win with a doubled up power use of omni-u's voletile wires and a singularity. Unfortunately, I counted an ongoing as an equipment so my math was off, but the rest of the team made up for it. Omni-2 was at 40, but 6 attacks of 4 later (by any means and nemesis) brought him down to 16. 3-4 other equipment cards were destroyed, more than enough to take out all the drones and take omni-2 further down (8-10). Chrono finished things off with an equipment search getting his bow and then using the bow's power. Good thing too. I'm not sure my team could have survived another turn!
Got crushed the first time I played it, cause I didn't pay quite enough attention to how the Omni's interact with each other. Started another game and realized the whole thing is a fixed start, from the cards each hero has and will draw, to exactly what the environment and Cosmitron are going to play and when.

Since I knew exactly what was going to happen, I played more conservatively and kept everyone alive and Cosmi from ever flipping. Got near mint.

Kinda wish it was randomized on replays.
Two flechettes in a row was all it took to send Unity to la la land (and put the rest of my team in single digits). Thankfully, with that out of the way, Absolute Zero quickly became the MVP. He dealt tons of damage and healed himself every single turn to double digits. With him tanking, double Inervation Ray brought the rest of the team back to stable health.

By the end of the battle, I was basically playing on autopilot. My four heroes had enough damage output to deal with any villain target except Electro-Pulse Explosive and Unity could destroy one of those with her incap ability. The only concern was Technological Singularity (which would have reset my entire team and murdered most of them in the process) and that card never came out during the game.

Mint, though definitely scary for a few turns.

Ugh. Minted but I'm so disgusted with how poorly I played that I feel I deserve a Fine. Although I'm very familiar with his deck I generally don't play any version of Omnitron much. I just don't like how the early villians have cards that essentually are "all your Ongoings/Equipment are destroyed no questions asked, do not pass go, do not collect $200." I've only played Cosmic Omnitron a handful of times and one thing I always remember about him is don't let him flip on big teams if you can. On the regular side he gets extra plays, on the Flipped Side he gets extra plays and dishes out way too much damage. In the past I've had success stalling his flip by allowing Interpolation Beam to sit out by dealing only 6 damage each round until I feel I'm set up enough to deal with his flipped side so that's what I decided to do.

Start of game and I pull off my plan. I get Neuro-Toxin Dart Thrower out and plan to use Bunker's Locomotion to deal with one of Omni's non-Interpolation Beam Components. And then the Mechani-Accumulator hit and I realized that he would start destroying regular Omnitron's Components as well as Omnitron-U's. Fortunatly for me Omnitron still had 1 more non-Interpolation Beam component that I could sacrifice and still stop him from flipping though I knew the Mechani-Accumulator had to go. When a second one came Omnitron-U made a sacrifice so that Interpolation Beam could remain.

At this point Omnitron had both his platings and his 2 plays ended up being both his flechletes. I had very mixed feelings about this cause on the one hand that was 12 damage my whole team just ate with Omnitron-U and Unity both getting wiped. On the other hand I was estatic that I no longer had to worry about my Ongoings being targeted.

So this continues as each turn I deal only 5/6 damage to keep Interpolation Beam from going away all the while dealing with whatever the environment and Omnitron throw at me all the while dreading that he'll play a Singularity until finally there's a turn where both he and the environment have a lot of drones in play and I'm at a loss. I really don't want him to flip but I can't deal with all the drones unless I use a few "attack all" abilities which will likely get rid of Interpolation Beam. I decide that I have to clear the board even if it means that Interpolation Beam is gone. Both Absolute Zero and Omnitron-U have been healing so I hope I can tank Omnitron's future attacks.

So Omnitron takes his turn... and doesn't flip. I'm totally confused trying to figure out where the beating I'm suppose to be getting is when it hits me. Omnitron-U's components stop Cosmic Omnitron from flipping as well. Boy I felt stupid. I actually knew this already but totally forgot about it because I fight Cosmic Omnitron so infrequenly. The realization that I could have been giving him a beatdown stings and I decide to make up for lost time.

So the Floodgates are open and I go ham. However my stalling came at a price cause on his next turn Omnitron played his singularity taking out Omnitron-U and Chrono. Fortunatly Absolute Zero had been healing pretty regularly so although Bunker and Unity are low AZ is really healthy and the incap abilities get him functional again and together the remaining heroes managed to push enough damage though to take him down.

But boy did I feel dumb. I totally forgot that the Omnitrons all interact like that and can really help or hinder each other depending on the situation and forgot I could take advantage of that to keep him from flipping while also dealing a lot of dmaage. That being said I think my blunder might have been secretly my key to victory. Had I remembered that Omnitron-U could use his components to keep Omnitron from flipping I would have likely destroyed the initial 3 components and played a component with Omnitron-U only to be horified when the Mechani-Accumulator destroyed my component triggering a flip from Omnitron. I actually tried it in a follow up game and boy was it bad. So I might have been an idiot but at least I was a lucky idiot.

Only fine. Those almost back to back flachettes were brutal surprises game one.
Phew, that was a close one. Still Minted it, but I'm not quite sure I deserved it given how long it took me to figure out that A) keeping Omnitron-II from flipping was crucial and that B) I could do that using Omnitron-U's components.

Also found out about Golem Unity's incredily niche incapacitated power and how useful it is in this fight, as is Elemental Wrath Absolute Zero's ability to stonewall the environment every turn. It feels mean to say it, but they were both more useful after they got incapped.

Thank goodness this game didn't have any Technological Singularities anywhere but at the bottom of the deck though.

PS. Omintron-U's Volatile Wiring into Singularity won the day, again.

He was at 1. I lost to exact damage. Whhhhhyyyyyyyy.
Omnitron-U was incapacitated, Chrono-Ranger and Bunker were at 3 hp each, and Unity and Absolute Zero were at 2 hp each, but I won. Unity double-skipped a lot, until she had a hand full of golems, and then found a Flash Forge that she used to retrieve all three Construction Pylons. Alternating Platform Bots and Raptor Bots laughed at Adaptive Plating Subroutine. Chrono-Ranger was able to Keep By Any Means on Omnitron for most of the game, which helped everyone, and gave a nice boost when O-U's incap ability enabled Bunker to destroy an unneeded piece of equipment to blast Omnitron. In the end, it was a Fueled Freeze that won the game.
Minted, and everyone survived, but no one had more than 10 HP at the end. I think the margin wouldn't have been as tight if I'd gotten Chrono Ranger's toxic dart thrower into play sooner.
