This isn't Steams fault, this falls more on publisher/developer.
Because if Steam did that suddenly, every AAA publisher would sell their games exclusively on their own platform like Origin and Uplay. It's not Steam (Valve) that forces the DRM on the game, it's the publisher/developer.
GOG has been following that practice since day one.
Even if performance impact and constant reliance on third-party servers to keep the games playable weren't enough for you, stuff like this is one of the biggest reasons why you should avoid anything that has third-party DRM. You buy a game early, and the publisher "rewards" you with an inferior unsupported version.
Doesn't look they used Denuvo
Yet instead you chose to sort of complain that it might not be supported some time in the future...
MD released at a time when developers didn't need to disclose that they had it. People crying about denuvo are clueless. SecuROM is a much worse issue, as is the square-enix shop itself. Denuvo for this game phones home during initial installation, then does nothing.
There's been denuvo free versions of the game since it released. Mac, linux, and the arr harr versions never had it. Now apparently it's on gog. At long last! After four years and some change, finally, you can...use another store to buy an old game, but it doesn't have denuvo. Great.
Now go talk about this nonsense on gog's forum. I'm sure they have a forum for it, right? It's not like epic? Or is it?
