800x600x16 Starting problem .... with a video driver that does not support the resolution.
Hi guys,
I've just installed Patrician 3 but when i launch the game, it appears an error saying that i have to set my screen in 800x600x16, otherwise i can't enter in the game to change resolution.... I have done some research and i had tried a few things .... nothing worked.

I did try compatibility modes and to change all results of P3 test with windows editor....nothing. I mean, i have just to start the game and change the resolution .....

The main issue is that my screen cannot have that resolution .... it's just an hardware limitation i cannot fix at all.... so, my question is:

Is there any possibility to solve this problem?

Thx for every answer can u tell me

Have you tried installing a resolution mod? I play this game at 2560x1440 no problem in windows 10 btw

I had tried but it doesen't work at all cause i can't enter into the game to change resolution, as it is required for the mod

I copied an old P2setup.exe from the German version "Patrizier II" into the Steam games directory, started it there in the Steam games directory and Patrician III is already running. First of all I installed the German version as described in the Community Guide "Patrician III - GERMAN & FULL HD". Surely someone still has an old P2setup.exe for the English version

Just in case someone else stumbles over this: You have to "test" all resolutions in the setup window which shows up on first run – and answer "yes" even if you don't want to use that resolution to them all. If you haven't you can start the "P3setup.exe" in the game folder to do it.

Had to do this to get the game to start without the thread starting error – using German & Full HD mod made no difference to the error, but after it, it seems to work.

I got a detailed step by step guide in the patrician III discord: https://discord.gg/6BHaRZm

But its using the resolution mod, compatibility service pack 3, and running p3setup.exe (part of the game files) before running the game

You can try to enable the "compatibility mode" to Windows XP SP3. For that you need to go to your Steam library, right click on the game and select manage -> open local folder/files (or something like that). There you need to right click on the Patrician3.exe and set the "compatibility mode". I believe the game is from the Windows XP era so ...

I can't get this to work. My computer refuses to run the 16 bit modes, and has that same 800x600x16 error message. Compatibility mode with XP also still fails. I could run this game back on Windows 7, but I have a new computer with Windows 10 and a GTX 1060 now that can't seem to run this game.

How to run 32 or 64 bit:

https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/212451369-The-resolution-800x600x16-could-not-be-initialised?product=gog

Again, just sayin´ we got most solutions on the discord to various different problems:)

Alright, I didn't see this in the guide, and I didn't see that thread when I glanced through the GoG forum, but it does work.

Only thing I had to do was go to:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Ascaron\Patrizier 2

and modify all (6)resolutions to OK

Then it worked perfectly.

Windows 10x64 Pro
