Why isn't there an offline mode?
Simply not being able to switch to offline mode in dark souls 2 is quite stupid.. I just came from Dark souls remastered and that game had an offline option.

In order for me to play offline in ds2 I have to load up my character then disconnect my Wi-fi let the game tell me I'm offline (and then reconnect so I can earn achievements)

I hate how I'm "forced" to play online with the possibility of being invaded, I don't care about PVP or multiplayer stuff at all.

how many of you play offline? I find it to be more enjoyable.

If you disconnect your Wi-Fi or have Steam offline, you're doing it for all games. You can prevent DS2 SotFS from connecting to FromSoftware's server, without having to disconnect your Wi-Fi or have Steam offline.

I use the method in the video for the challenge runs I do.

search up nexusmods' ds2 pages, a topic with a similar answer was brought up recently about this, there's somewhere there a mod that forces the game to start in offline mode, if you fear getting banned for those assumingly rare occasions you actually feel like playing online, don't worry, such mods leave no traceable evidence of their existence in your save file so they don't trigger the anti-cheat system on their own.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Okay I'll use this thank you, its really stupid that we're forced to use external solutions to simple problems.. and the fact that dark souls is online, and you can actually get banned, also does not help the modding community..

So its either a mod or the method duck showed. either way its lazy as hell for the devs to completely skip out a simple toggle.

I'm pretty sure you can just do what you were originally doing and everything would be fine. Just disconnect internet once you load until you see the message it's in offline mode and then reconnect your wifi. It only checks when you start the game, or save and quit back to menu. You don't have to leave it off, or fully disconnect steam.

Granted, a mod would make it automatic and should be safe to use. A built-in option would be nice, but it was added later in the series and ported back to DS1 in the remaster.

Discovered it myself by accident when my internet got spotty, had a pretty good time and am debating doing the rest of the game that way. It's so peaceful by comparison.

Once you exit the game it will automatically reconnect online, (if you disconnected and reconnected mid-game) it also becomes quite tedious since you have to that everytime.
Duck's video works better, just a quick minor tweak, (he did the video showing it, it was posted by some guy on reddit)

Mentioned all that, yeah. Just wanted to clarify how it works, since an above poster implied it affects other things when it doesn't have to.

You can block the game's EXE file in your firewall to prevent it from connecting.

DS2 has exclusive invader encounters in offline mode.

This makes DS2 the only DS game where playing offline is one of the intended and supported ways to play the game.

DS1 remastered had a couple of NPC invaders also, they can be triggered offline.

In DaS the NPC invaders appear even if youre online or not. In DaS 2, some only appear if youre offline. Do some research before saying something you dont know.
