I think I purchased the wrong version

In my excitment to finnaly play the deffinative version of the game, I hastily made purchase and I think it is the DX9 version.

Am I screwed or am I able to switch. I've never claimed a refund on steam before.

They added calibration 1.15 for DirectX 9.0 version this morning for free. It contained all gear balancing and as far as I know, they never intended to add anything else for DX9. Conclusion: It is rather impossible to buy again same thing. Besides, you couldn't install two identical games. But do it your way, I have to agree it is safer route.

I think thats a mistake. I think if you buy the "upgrade" there is anyway only the dx11 update, other version are free. The game requirements also clearly state DX11 is needed.

i know this is late, but if i buy the upgrade option, is this the correct one?

that's what shows in my account details too so i think it's correct.

i didnt buy this, i bought the one on the SotFS page under the main game where it says upgrade if you already own DS2 for a special upgrade price

This was an old topic to ressurect but here is the gist: There are two version of Scholar of the First Sin. A DX9 version and a DX11 version.

The two versions split up the community to avoid performance differences during pvp. The majority of the community is in DX11 as it is a best version with nicer texture and slightly more optimised.

I bought this within minutes of its release but in my haste, I had accidentally purchased the DX9 version. So I put on the brakes and stopped installing. It took 2 weeks to get a refund. So they removed the game from my account and gave my steam wallet enough to do a second transfer.

Then everything was gravy.

When you say there are 2 versions i think you are wrong.

You bought the Dark Souls 2 bundle with all the season passes right? And it was called Scholor of the First Sin bundle or something?

This is NOT the scholar of the fist sin edition. This is merely the normal DS2 with all the season passes and the bundle is simply called scholar of the first sin.


There are only 2 versions, the Dx9 and Dx11 version, one is DS2 and one is DS2: SotFS. Thats it.


(by the way this looks like i am answering my own question, which is true because i just figured it all out) xD

SCHOLAR IS DX11 ONLY.
DKS2 VANILLA IS DX9.

you bought the regular DS2 with all the DLC with it, that wasnt the SotFS edition, it was just a Dx9 bundle that had this name :)
