INT/FTH pure melee Black Knight Halberd build advices
Hi,

Here my build idea for a 106 SL :

VIG 15
END 15
VIT 10
ATT 10
STR 17
DEX 26
ADA base
INT 30
FTH 30

Using Black Knight Halberd, infused with dark to have C scaling on fire and dark and the two rings : Fire Clutch Ring and Dark Clutch Ring + Dark Weapon spell (or any other weap buff).
30 INT/FTH softcap while fire and dark scale on the both stats.

It's for pve only and I would add a med shield with 100% bloc (to perform a Thrust atk).
Adapting the armor set depending of the vit lvl to stay under 70%.

Already trying this with the Dragonslayer's Crescent Axe +5 and dealing around 500 dmg with the light 2H strike.
Unfortunately the lighting dmg of the axe only scale with the FTH. That's why I'm aiming to try it with the halberd, but would like to have some advices on the viability of that kind of build, because I'm still learning the game mechanics :D

thx!

Well, thanks for that relevant advice... Anything else?

for pve? just pick whatever weapon you like and stick with it, there's no need to min-max

For pve any ''build'' is viable really it relys mainly on personnal choices.....since you can do the game naked with laddle as weapon :P I like to use crescent axe..mostly naked with flint's ring and shield for bonuses but i always 2 hand never use shield as defence...and short sword+10 as backup....More point into life and adap and only base requ for weap and/or 25dex for warped sword and 20 strengh for heavy club and swords....prety dull i know but i like it lol so Really do and play as you see fit...if you wanna PVP then just read a bit about builds and counter.....and die die die die die...that how you get better :P

I know that all build are viable, but I would like to have an opinion on like "spending so much points on int/fth not worth" or something else like that...

I have this exact build on one of my characters...it started with wanting only dex/fire damage. Then I got dark infused Esparada with Old leo ring, a single strong attack counter thrust hits for ~1050 -.- I've tried many different builds/weapons and nothing took down bosses faster than dark infused Esparada. The only drawback of that damage is having to keep weight below 60 and using ROB+2 and Flynn, but with such good rolls and quick thrusts you wouldn't have much issue.

don't invest 30 points into both int and faith if you plan to do pure melee

Why not? Just cuz you got the stats doesn't mean you need to use spells. Unfortunately a lot of infused weapons do more damage than a quality build, so getting a str or dex with int/fai is a great way to optimize melee damage.

  • your VGR and END are frighteningly low for a pure melee build with a more stamina-consuming weapon
  • your ADP is way too low and if you encounter something you can't afford to block you're gonna have trouble rolling through the bigger hits. raise it until your Agility is at at least 100 when possible
  • WHY THE ♥♥♥♥ ARE YOU INFUSING A FIRE WEAPON WITH DARK?
halberds like the Black Knight Halberd are very strong in PvE for their damage output and ability to stay at a distance while attacking, they do suffer from reduced damage if an enemy is too close and you hit them with the pole instead of the blade. that's something you learn to overcome as you play through positioning or parrying closer enemies. a Fire BKH works, but Fire/Dark builds tend to take more stats, so just keep your STR/DEX/INT/FTH at the lowest possibly to wield the halberd right for now and focus on raising VGR/END a bit before you jump back into INT/FTH.

It gets to a point pretty early where you can only invest so many points in vig or adp, and quality is unfortunately not on the same dmg level as infused...at least not without flynn+rob+2. But then infused with flyn and rob+2 is still 75dmg as opposed to 100 for non infused.

The only thing i have to say is good luck dodging stuff with pretty much no agility. You're gona need some good reflexes.

Also, i THINK there are attacks that wont even be dodgeable at base agility

Thanks for the answers.

VGR and END are the next stats I aim to level up... (or maybe lower fth/int a little to have pts to put in it)
I've not had trouble leaving ADP at base... (for now)
Infusing with dark give more dark dmg than fire dmg when infusing with fire + add scaling with dark.

the guy still got like 44 points to 150 so as long as he get at least 20 END and 40 VGR he is fine

Infusing with dark give more dark dmg than fire dmg when infusing with fire + add scaling with dark.
base dmg =/= dmg output
against enemies with high magic resist you're putting yourself at a big disadvantage by having two elements + phys. you have the disadvantage of going through 2 elemental resistances + loewr physical damage which usually makes up for high elemental resist on innate elemental weapons, with some exceptions such as the full-magic Moonlight Greatsword. infusing with fire gives a larger scaling bonus than infusing with something else, and buffing the halberd with Fire Weapon gives a fire damage multiplier which will greatly increase your damage, while still leaving more physical damage than the dark infusion as a backup against fire-resistant enemies.
