Good Straight Sword?
I'd like to use a straight sword for my staff and sword mage I'm playing (I'm big into archetypes). I'm getting tired of my Shortsword though, and I have almost no other straight swords.

If this helps, I've 50 int and I would level DEX and STR if they were required for the weapon. I've also already beat the game on PS4, so spoilers are perfectly fine.

All the straight swords are pretty powerful really. Sun sword has a pretty good moveset, to the point people put it up with Katanas as a scrub weapon.

If you wan't to be more unique, try the Yellow Quartz Longsword. Low durability, but people will do a double take in PvP.

blue flame would do the highest damage for that build, but it has no strong attack, and if you're using a staff, you don't need to cast with the sword.

puzzling stone sword has low requirements, a good moveset, and can give you room to cast, but it's weak.

possessed armor sword is strong and has a self-buff. but has greatsword-level requirements.

I might go with the puzzling sword, thanks, possessed looks really good but my STR and DEX are way lower than the requirements.

What's a good boss to grind sunlight medals? I might do that... I'm focusing on PvE right now so scrubiness isn't a problem for me xD.

covetous demon is easy, and smelter demon usually has lots of people looking for help.

Drangleic castle, king's gate bonfire if you're at higher SM, because of the 4 possible bosses for that area.

Is it generally better to put my sign next to the boss door or the bonfire?

At Drangleic, most people throw the sign down in front of the King's door.

I would choose the Longsword. Its moveset is as good as the Sun Sword, if not better. And it's way easier to get.

The longsword is a solid choice. I used it for one of my INT builds and it works very well with a staff in the left hand. Don't forget that 2H the longsword gets you thrust strong and running attacks :P

Sun Sword looks bland as well. And I actually think at low str/dex longsword is better than sun sword, which would be better for quality build, like 40/40 str/dex.

Which do you suggest? I'd be fine with a curved sword although I expect many of the good ones have high dex requirements.

Is there a sword with horrible STR and DEX scaling but gets good INT scaling with a faintstone enchantment?

Looks are subjective. Why bother to ask about straight swords if you're going for looks? Choose one you like the look of and use it yourself. There probably isn't going to be a "perfect" straight sword that looks how you want with all the stats you want. Choose form or function, unlikely you'll get both.

I went with straight swords because I wanted a fast weapon. I wasn't expecting an amazing looking sword, I just wanted something other than a normal iron sword.

Also, I know looks are subjective, I meant no offence with my post. No hard feelings. :D

Nothing grinds my gears more than people who act like their opinions are fact.

Since you're being intelligent, here's something to consider with your decision: If you're making an INT build and planning on infusing the sword with magic, aren't you going to be coating the sword in crystal magic weapon anyways? You won't even be able to see what your weapon looks like half the time you're fighting.

That's true, it's just a little weird when I have the ridiculous Lion Mage armour and a huge wand next to a plain looking sword. I usually go function over form so I'm used to having weird stuff.
