Infusing with Raw, worth it for strengh build
My stats are 50 STR and 44 DEX and wandering if its worth infusing my swords with RAW for base damage now. To be honest im not 100% sure how infusing works, only I know infusing RAW decreses scaling but adds to base damage and most of my swords are now 10+ anyway.

with a A scaling in str you can get a easy 150-170 damage from the scaling.

i imagine raw adds less then that.

Well im looking at my stats and damage per weapon (same weapon) and my stats are saying the raw infused one is producing more damage. Im now in NG+ and I have nearly every sword in the game, but hey I still don't quite understand it.

Raw severely gimps weapons with scaling when you have at least a decent amount of the stats they scale with, thus being better suited for weapons with no scaling at all. Although there are a few odd cases where it could be a reasonable option, like the Watcher's Greatsword.

Yes, a raw weapon will do more weapon damage. Scaling damage is no shown on the weapon. (kinda sucks you cant see scaling damage when upgrading/infusing)

go to your equipment screen, there should be some value for damage there shown as for example 340 + 170. 340 is the weapon damage, this will increase with Raw. 170 is the scaling damage, this will be reduced to like 20 when you make it Raw.

But just say what your weapon is so you can get better advice :P

I think im starting to understand it.. but I use a number of swords and here they are.

Drakeblood Greatsword +5
Claymore +10
Drangleic sword +5
Fume sword but infused with dark
Uchigatana +10
Smelter +5 (not raw)

Falchion +10
Broadsword +10

Theses are the swords I like to play with and feel comfortable using. Thanks.

Drakeblood has a S scaling in dexterity, which is the best scaling, so keep that regular.
Claymore has C/C in str/dex, so thats probably worth keeping regular.
Drangleic is A in dex, keep normal
Fume sword has A in dex and B in dark.
Uchi is A in dex again, so keep normal
Smelter sword has D/D/C scaling in str/dex/fire, that one might be better as raw unless you have some of the stats that scale with fire.

Falchion A in dex
broadsword has B in strenght.

most of your weapons scale strongly with dexterity. so i kinda suggest you get 50 in that and then 44 (or even less, just enough to wield the weapons) in str. going from 44 to 50 dex will increase yoru damage a little bit, not to much. Loosing strengh wont make you loose much damage at all either.

Thanks eleventh thanks for advice, I should go back to Mcduff and uninfuse some of my weapons I had raw'ed up to test out. I will just use a soul vessel and change my stats too 50 dex as well.

So you sugguest my falchion and broadsword should remain normal and not infused as well ? Anyway I gota go work now, so I have no time to test out until tonight :( Thanks agian

generally if you are unsure if it will make a difference or not in damage, the change is probably so small its not worth looking at. if you get weapons in the D->E range then that makes more sense to go Raw with. The Letter values for scaling purposes vary with each weapon so it isnt a solid system of data. on your stat sheet, the Fire BNS etc etc is what you use on weapons that have fire scaling etc etc.

Equip all the weapons you are thinking about infusing and remember which slot each one is in.

Then talk to mcduff and select infuse. Hit Y by default, and the information on the right will change from details about the highlighted weapon to details about your character. There are 3 info screens you can cycle with that button, you want to look for the set of 6 red squares with roman numerals - these represent the total damage of a weapon in that equipment slot. So the first red square is your first right hand weapon, the 4th square down has a roman numer I again, thats your first left hand equip slot. You can figure it out.

Now with that information displayed, select one of the equiped weapons and scroll over the infuse options. You will see the red square number that corresponds with the weapon change depending on the infusion type. This number is the base damage plus the scaling, so you dont need to guess rather C scaling might be better than Raw dmg, since on some weapons C is decent, and on others C is not. This number here (the red square) has the final say and represent the total AR (attack rating) for the weapon.

So now you can always tell without having to ask or waste stones experimenting. Good Luck!
