The original DkS2 was dx9.
here's my thread, on it http://steamcommunity.com/app/335300/discussions/0/613956964593710396/
at the bottom, there's three links, one to a forum discussion that you'll need for bypassing the default driver update issue.
here is that link- http://steamcommunity.com/app/233250/discussions/2/558749190911446231/
One link contains a reddit post to a direct link to Intel's driver update list.
Make sure he gets the 64 or 32 bit version (note that on your computer, if it's really old, it's probably 32 bit, but make sure you find a way to check)
Download the latest version, then follow the steam post on installing the .zip version (NOT THE .exe VERSION).
edit- here is the reddit post with the link to Intel's website. Follow the 2nd steam post up above to intstall it, then restart.

There are still minor glitches that occur, but they are mutch less worse than this. Cause I'm assuming your friends character looks like a "psychotic steampunk" guy...
Welp, have fun! Don't you dare go hollow
I have the same graphics as your friend. Oddly, when searching on Intel's website for the "Intel HD Graphics 4000" drivers, no results came up. I got several results when searching for "Intel HD Graphics", however.
After following the link posted by JRubz above at the reddit site, I had a list of Intel drivers that included a driver specific for the 4000 series graphics engine. So if anyone is following - be sure to follow the above link to find the Intel driver, do not simply search on Intel's site for devices.
Great posts - great thread!
