Wondering about Cheat Engine and a name change.

I am sitting here wondering if I could chance my DS2 SotFS characters name without a soft ban. I know the EULA policy, and that you're now allowed to edit the game files. But if I would do it only for a cosmetic change, a name change. That would not be anything intense because it would not after my game starts or give me a advantage on my opponents in PvP and PvE (Co-op) would not suffer in anyway either.

EDIT: The name would fit the 15 letter space you are given.

So if I could get a answer to this from a person who knows these things well, that would be great. Thank you.

really unlikely actually. you MIGHT get flagged if you have an illegal name (really long with colours and symbols). otherwise I would bet you won't get banned. I have changed one of my character's names and haven't been banned yet.

From has a server team working on this game that manually detects users with illegally modified save games. If you haven't been banned yet, then you will be banned at some point. No one knows the schedule but you will be banned some day. All it takes is for the team to detect your save from among the thousands and it's ban time!

You cant get banned for changing names, even if they exceed the limit or they have weird sings and colors. You can get flagged on steam

Hmm, I've done some research about this but most ppl have mixed thoughts, but I have not herd anyone get soft banned yet.

Having normally unobtainable items when the save is loading
lowering sm while online
having higher level that your sm allows when the save is loading
modifying .dll files

It's just the general consensus after analysing DS2 softbans. "modifying .dll files" is a new one though, he probably got this from the ds2fix, but the dev still denies you can be banned for it.

What that guy said. And I got editing .dll files from a friend, so its not 100%. I just wanted to list everything I know CAN cause softban.

1. Start your game (offline mode is reccomended)
2. open the character you want to change name of
3. start cheat engine
4. select DarkSoulsII process
5. set value type to string
7. type your name and start scan
8. change the value of a result
9. check the name on the player info tab
10. if it wont change set it back to the same value
11. repeat steps 8-10 until it works

Pretty sure you can get banned for posting steps to using a cheat engine when it goes against steams TOS.

Well... i assumed something like that, but thans for confrimation. I didnt really want to read all that stuff.

Right, so I take it that the character name is situated in the library (.dll).
