NG+ wearing heavy armour is pretty much the difference of taking 3 hits to die or 4 hits to die. It can help you last if you get lucky but for the most part you're probably going to want to be faster so you can dodge than you would want to be weighed down.
So in high levels the effect is low, but the investment is pretty low too.
heavy armor costs, at most, 40 equip load, unless you're Havel, then you can go f urself. That shouldn't be a problem for you if you have 20 vit or 15 and tdr, unless you're also using a skyscraper as a weapon, or a greatshield, in which case you shouldn't need armor.
5 points of armor should shrug off 1 point of damage.
the 250 or so points from light to medium or medium to heavy negates flynn's ring
fast weapons and multihit weapons are a joke against very heavy armor, but they can still consistently stagger you if they know what they're doing.
ultras work well against heavy armor because, obviously, they hit harder, but also the movement and stamina penalties of the armor make the ultras less terrible.
elemental damage is percentage based, so forget heavy armor if you plan on eating a crystal soul spear.
and all buffs/effects that add physical damage are added each hit, but also subtracted each hit, so high counter weapons are more effective vs armor than high dps weapons/buffs.
NG++, wearing light legs and a tseldora hat, no chest armor, zero reach on my weapons, I disagree.
Depending on your playstyle, armor *can* be important. For tanky builds where you're using a shield a lot, the extra poise can be very useful.
If you have a decent amount of agility and a light equip load, dodging is way more important. And if you're dodging a lot, armor makes zero difference, since you shouldn't be being hit in the first place.
Agreed, i tank a lot with axes, greatswords, i always stay close to mobs and bosses, and i definitely need a good armor but not too heavy since i'm always dodging.
That's why i suggest Drangleic armor: the set (without helmet) can be found at the beginning after The Pursuer. It's decent and does not recquire an insane strength.
But yeah, depends on your playstyle like people have been saying.
I kinda have an issue with this logic.....
Sure..if your fast to dodge with alot of stamina you should IDEALY not be getting hit.....but your not going the whole game, dont care how good ya are.
Was in the Army for 6years....not a single day I went out in field was I not wearing body armor. Did I plan on getting shot daily...HELL NO.....but ya put it on with the off chance it may happen.
Based on the off chance you will eventualy get hit few times here and there even when dodging it seems to me armor is somewhat important to everyone....its just the degree of this importance that changes.
FYI...had I followed the armor is pointless because I dont plan on getting shot logic I would not be here right not to post htis....several times over in fact.
Then you should qualify your previous statement as such:
"Armor is pointless if you dodge, and dont mind getting killed every now and then from being supersquishy"
=)
I just cant go without all my armor slot filled...even my 'ninja' build uses light armor......could neber run around shirtless like I see so many..that lil OCD part of the brain would kick in...that little voice tellling how impractical im being....thats just how my head works though, more power to the shirtless ninjas!
