Are the "Ghosts" realtime?
The little ghosty guys doing their own thing in their own universe.

Somtimes I swear they are intentionally trying to wack me.

I really dont know, sometimes its like they don't. But it's just like when I ignored a ghost.

They are not real time. I've seen my own character standing at the bonfire, even though I was on another char. So that means it at least happened a while ago. That happened several times. Some ghosts (if not all) are also prerecorded actions by devs.

Would explain the same guy using the same armor throughout the entire game

doubt it would be real time it probs selects a few and plays them randomly.

It's a cool feature. they are not devs they are people

There is people, I know. However Im sure some are prerecorded ghosts placed to throw you off or put you on track. They have the same armor and have the attack pattern of a npc

ahh yeah u think there is an npc 1 in knight armor who shows up but the player omes you can tell a mile off

I suspect that the ghosts are actual players (although not in real time, but short 'memories' of players who have passed thru), but instead of using the millions of potential armor combinations, the game displays the ghosts as generic characters (you'll often see knight armor, alva, basic caster robes, heavy leather set)

no armor code is irrelevant it will use the exact same stuff the player has on but there is a k ight armor ghost who appears a lot

The ghosts are a combination of snapshots from other players and pre-recorded loops hardcoded in by the devs.
Player ghosts will be in whatever gear they were in when the system records the snapshot.
The dev recorded stuff is typically wearing iconic sets from the game(s).

Player ghosts are not in real time, but should be from within a few hours of when you see them...as there is a limited amount of these 'recordings' that will be stored for playback...the new erases the old so to speak.

Well sometimes they confuse me so much, I'll see these ghosts fighting in areas no enemies spawn whatesoever and doing curious things.

Remember in Dark Souls 1 when all ghosts only had on underwear? That was funny.

This is something I have actually wondered about quite often, nice to have an answer at last (always enjoyed it as a feature). Presumably the blood pools work the same way and are a selection of deaths from hrs ago?

getting killed by invaders is what I always thought was happening with those guys... theres two types of ghost though: one a almost solid pale colour with minimal features (like the one always getting killed with no enemies about) and other ones that have different amours/weapons and slightly invisible and often seen by bonfires. the latter are the real players. not sure if the former are just -prerecorded or both.

I actually once saw a player ghost get up and run up the stairs from the iron keep first bonfire and then went up myself, checked some summon signs and saw the same guy. though tht was pretty cool.

E: also theres the bloodstains. quite a few in majula that show between 1 and 4 ghosts running and jumping off into the sea/down the hole to their deaths. utter sillyness! but funny.
