I used the zipline on top of the the Aerie fire to get myself to the Shrine and all the Dragonbros were bowing to me.
So what aggroes them.. well, don't smack em in the face with your shovel!
The first time I got to the Castle I didn't touch any dragon eggs and didn't kill any dragons. The dragon guards all bowed and waited, I think they are standing in a "mini arena" where you have to fight and murder the Black guards. If you run past them the Dragon guards find you "not honorable" and they attack you.
Try to run past them.
Summon someone.
Hit them.
They will aggro on you. It has nothing to do with skipping the Aerie. Making the Aerie able to just be skipped is the strangest change they made in the whole game honestly. I mean it was in the very first screenshots. One of the more iconic areas of DS2 now the game encourages you to just go around it lol.
Seriously, it will aggro everybody in the area, towards you and the invader, regardless if you gained the Dragonbros' respect or not.
