There IS a map.....saying otherwise would suggest you dont know the game much........just not the kinda map you're used to thats all :)
The levels are fairly linear most of the time and has a lot of "open areas" where you can see pretty much all of the area from the start, so you should be good with some exceptions, but see it from the bright side of live: If you get lost enough you will have a map in your own head.
Areas that could bother you:
No mans Wharf - You can see the entire area and it looks scary, but don't worry. Once you got used to losing all your souls to the dogs / pirats you will notice that there is realy just one path to progress.
Lost Bastille (although it is a linear level, it can be confusing since certain path are blocked off depending on the side you are entering the area from.)
Forest of the Fallen Giants -> It may look strange but it is realy linear.. just follow the only path you can and you will get to the fog gates.
Shaded Woods: Fog area. .. It is a pain in the ass for everyone ..if you don't mind missing out on some loot stick to the left wall and take the first way to your left, speak with the head on the stone than go back and left again until you are out of the fog. (SPOILER: there is a very handy ring to your right once you reach the sloap that leads to the exit..you might want to grab that one.)
Black gulch: Bring your torch and walk until you hit the exit. I can't give you any advice here. It is dark. It is filled with poison. It sucks (but is very atmospheric).
Undead Crypt: Linear but dark. Bring a torch but you also might want to listen to the guy who tells you something about light and his tomb ..
Dragon Aeri: You goal is to reach the large island with the fortress ontop of it without destroying more than 3 eggs (if you destroy 3 consider going back to your bonefire and reset, if you destroy 5 to 8 definatly go back and reset. You will trigger an event that instant kills you without a chance of getting through.) Youst walk over all the bridges until you can get there. You will find it eventually.
DLC: Sanctum City and the rest of the dlc looks like guide territory for me. The mobs are insanly strong, later on insanly unfair if you don't know the area and it is filled with *switch puzzels* and lot's of ways to go..
It might look like a lot of places that might trouble you, but as I said earlier: Most of the game is linear and you should be able to get through without losing your orientation. (I had to try hard to not say "without any problems... because you will have them..lots of em.. welcome to dark souls :) )
too bad the good maps are japanese.
You have to google it for yourself. I didn't find any good ones
1.-There are no maps, radar, mission markers or similars in the whole game.
2.-Life regeneration is optional but you have to find the item that gives you this hability.
3.-Actions are permanent, be careful when using a weapon near a "good" NPC you WILL kill him.
4.-When you die you lose your souls, so prepare to lose tons of souls
5.-It will get difficult, when you have troubles with a boss check the internet for tips.
6.-The most important stats are life and stamina
7.-A shield with high stability is your best friend.
8.-Don't bother using heavy armor, go light always light.
9.-Have fun
10.-Make sure to play Dark souls 1, which is superior imho.
Pls easy solo pursuer.
