Solaire and Lucatiel (SPOILER ALERT)
As a kind of DS wannabe veteran I was wondering, who ended more depressed.
Solaire (as he found sunlight maggot) died after all in extasy of finding his own sun. On the other side, when he got saved, he lost his hope.

Lucatiel... oh boy, how I love this character, but quest line ending is SO damn bad. Lucatiel is going to lose it in the end, even without meeting her brother Aslatiel. It was like only thing that was powering her to go further against the Curse. She gave me her armor (yay !) but I want more of her lore. FROMSOFT why ?!

And now, question for players - what do you think about both of characters ? Do you agree with my opinion that Lucatiel got it worse ?

Praise the sun ! :)

There's a hidden (and canonish?) ending for Solaire. If you save him from the sunlight maggot, he is summonable at the Kiln of the First Flame, in his own world, he links the fire and becomes an even more glorious sun, and according to Dark Souls 3, a Lord of Cinder.

Lucatiel just kinda goes Hollow, so yeah, poor lass.

Solaire loses hope. (similar to depression) and then turns to drugs (maggot) as it were.

Lucatiel is aware she is losing her sanity. (presumably a lot of undead are aware of this, also similarities to alzheimers)

Both are pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ things to happen to you. But solaire would also hollow out after he lost hope if he didnt find the maggot. But presumably he wouldn't care to much because he was depressed.

Not sure which is worse, i guess on average slipping into depression is something you aren't really aware off. So i guess being aware you are losing your mind is worse.

My name is Lucatiel. I beg of you, remember my name. For I may not myself...

That's kind of thing I never though of... Sure, because he has his own time line in his own world, helping him at Kiln of First flame means he will link the fire and becames next monarch, as well as Chosen Undead. Some inception ♥♥♥♥ right here.

You mean... my buddy Solaire CAN become grossly incandescent? :')

Lucatiel is pretty ironic and sad as well when you soncsider the fact that her brother actually invades you after your last encounter with her and you presumably kill him

I'd definately have to say Lucatiel. I mean, for Solaire, either you save him and help him link the flame in his own world, or he kind of becomes ignorant to what's happened to him because of the Sunlight Maggot.

Lucatiel on the other hand, has no such saving grace, positive or otherwise. It's just her, occasionally sharing words with the main character of DS2 (I forgot the title), but otherwise just wandering this forsaken land alone, seeing all these hollowed soldiers and what not, knowing full well that it's happening to her as well.

Plus, your character in DS2 is kind of a jerk and doesn't even mention that the Effigy could totally help her....so yea. Lucatiel, hands down.

I haven't played through Dark Souls, only Dark Souls II, but I loved Lucatiel's story. I also believe that she did indeed meet her brother, in Aldia's Keep. If you follow her story and meet her outside Aldia's Keep, she will give you her armor, and the next time you come there, she is gone. I believe she ventured into the keep and Aslatiel, who already turned hollow invaded her realm (world?) and killed her, since he had lost all his memories and gone hollow.
I find it very sad, since Lucatiel's biggest wish was to beat her brother in a duel, but instead, that became her final duel, and the end of her story.

This is, of course speculation, because that's what the Dark Souls series give us room to do, as we get fairly little actual facts about characters and their background relatively speaking.

P.S. Not to be forgotten, is that nowhere it actually says that Lucatiel and Aslatiel are siblings, that's also just speculation, but we got some facts pointing towards it.

from software missed out an an oppurtunity with Lucatiels story,it would have been better to find dying just outside the area Aslatiel invades you and with her dying breathe she tells us to remember her.
