Shulva is the biggest joke of an area ever
I have never played an area in a game so ridiculously annoying.

Fully upgraded farams armor, fully upgraded claymore and have thoroughly beat the base game and my weapons hit like an overcooked noodle. The 3 boss...boss, is hands down the most annoying and irritating boss I have ever seen in a video game. I thought Shadows of Yharman were bad on Bloodborne...I have never witnessed something so stupid.

The fact that boss is not remotely interesting or the environment doesn't help that it is near impossible to solo. It is not even close to being entertaining in anyway and they should feel ashamed for putting something so stupid in.

I love Dark Souls in general, but that is just outright stupidity.

thats a challenge boss. meant to be done with coop even though it is possible to solo

it's easy enough you just need practise. i used loads of ascethics there for farming for that puzzling sword from the big wyrm thing, and getting stuff from those statue monsters. solo'd the bosses muliple intensities. the trick is to hit and run a lot and try take down the archer first, he's pretty weak. what's your sm? i migth be able to help

Unless you play pure mage without backup melee weapon, it's easy area overall. Probably the easiest of 3 DLCs too.

The 3rd "boss" though... yeah, I don't even consider it a boss, because it's not.
Summon NPC phantoms to help if there're no people available, they are not terribly smart, but good enough to buy some time. Bring warmth to heal them and yourself before boss room too.
If all goes well, then you can easily kill one of the them and it's basically done.

If you still can't do this, then bring some cheesy weapon which can push on hit, like fume UGS's on R2/RT attack. That way you can push one of them of the cliff and focus on the remaining one, then push 2nd one again and repeat.

Welcome to DLC areas

Wait until you hit the Frigid Outskirts.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reindeer. (thankfully the NPC phantoms can help deal with them a decent bit, make sure to dismiss them before entering the bossgate though)

Why would you dismiss them? Unless you want some challenge of course, but considering how terrible the area before them is... screw that challenge.
Again, as with that Shulva 3rd "boss", bring warmth and heal them and they'll tank boss for you and even some some decent damage. Just don't summon the head of vengarl, he's terrible and doesn't worth defense boost on boss.

Dismissing the phantoms prior to fighting Lud and Zallen makes the boss fight easier. If you have a phantom present when you engage that boss Zallen gets put on a timer and joins the fight in under 60 seconds OR when Lud is reduced to 70% HP. If you don't have a phantom, you can get Lud all the way down to 50% and take up to 5 minutes without worrying about Zallen pouncing on you from behind.

The Gank Squad is a joke if you're a caster using anything other than Miracles (they have the lowest elemental defenses of any boss outside of the Ancient Dragon and Giant Lord). Smelter Smurf is absolutely a cakewalk by the time you should be fighting him.

@OP: If you think the Gank Squad is hard, there's a Knight waiting for you in the 2nd DLC that will make you hate life itself in ways no DS1 or DS2 boss ever has.

Still way easier with phantoms, you just attack one of them while 2nd is somewhere far trying to kill phantom or two. Then you attack 2nd before it enrages, then just kill it. Don't think they can even kill those phantoms, since they run around too much.
It not too tough solo too, I agree, but with phantoms (fully healed ones, that's important) it's almost impossible to die there, which is good considering how "awesome" area before them is.

Damn, I haven't made it to the other dlcs, still running around frantically in shulva. I actually beat the boss I complained about and came here to say it afterwards.

To be frank, it's not so much the difficulty of this boss, it's just that it's very uninspiring and bland that just enhances the irritation factor.

See, Shadows of Yharman were annoying for me solo, however, the fight itself was interesting...especially since they looked like nazgul.

I seriously don't know how I didn't break my ps4 controller though. I threw it across the room multiple times and hammerfisted it.

I solo'd that whole area... it went fine but then again i havel tanked it with a greatsword.
Rezonus Jun 18, 2015 @ 9:49pm
the fight is way easier then the shadow of yharnam fight since you can bring phantoms with you then fish for backstabs, then again with the shadow of yharnam fight you can just spin to win with the hunter axe, like every other human sized opponent

Threw mine 5 ft in front of me due to the blood starved beast the third time I died to it and slightly popped out one of my handles >_<

Forever uneven controller ;-;

Also, Shadow of Yharnam were plebs.
