With action key, the one you use to pick up items; instead pharron's wall after putting the stone on it have to be attacked like in ds1/ds3

During the adventure you will find points on the wall that look like a face with two eyes and an open mouth, there you have to insert the Pharros stones which will make a bright door appear nearby that can be opened by attacking it with treasures inside. The first one you encounter is in the first area the forest of fallen giants, inside the fortress in a room with the ballistae; while the first stone of Pharros to unlock the mechanism you can buy it from the npg of the "witch" near the second bonefire of the area.

Really the main reason why it is that way is probably due to the fact they're not illusory walls in DS2, they're all mechanical doors. Makes sense why attacking them wouldn't "dispel" them.
Just sucks there's no gameplay tutorial for it, like the game telling you to inspect your envionment sometimes or something.

I just wanted to point out real quick that you should probably skip that Pharros Door by the 2nd bonfire at the Forest of Fallen Giants. Inside is a Cloranthy Ring and a Titanite Slab, but you can get a Cloranthy Ring +1 from the Shaded Woods really easy, and even early on, if you really want to.

Since the original poster is new: once you get access to a "Fragrant Branch of Yore", go back to the entrance of Majula (as your coming from Things Betwixt) and go down the other path (as you enter Majulra from the tunnel, turn left around the rocky wall and you enter a new tunnel). You'll find a swordsman sitting on the ground holding a fake Moonlight Greatsword, and a statue in the shrine behind him. Unpetrifying this statue with the Fragrant Branch of Yore allows you to get into the Shaded Woods, and has the bonus of unlocking the Pyromancy merchant.

Note, that to get the entrance to the Shaded Woods to "open", you have to close the door you opened (the one the statue was blocking). I found the Shaded Woods pretty early on, but never actually entered it until endgame-ish, because I didn't know how to operate the doors. Also, I'm not spoiling anything about this area, just mentioning how to get the ring, because it can save you a LOT of frustration with this game.

The Shaded Woods are a bit tough early game, but you don't have to kill any of the enemies; just run past them to the 2nd bonfire in the Shaded Woods. There will be 3 paths there at the top of strairs: take the right one into the "foggy area". Basically, just run straight through to the back of the fog and once you find the cliff, follow the wall left, where you'll find a ramp with a small ledge. Travel along the ledge to find a chest with the Cloranthy Ring +1 inside.

You save yourself a Pharros Key this way (unless you really need that Titanite Slab, but there are other ways to get those, and you don't need many), as Pharros Keys are common later on, but kind of rare early game. Also, a lot of areas have one or two Pharros Doors, those are okay to open, but there are at least 2 areas in the game which have a bunch of Pharros Doors that don't have anything useful inside them (or unlock traps for use in PvP for specific Covenants).

The Cloranthy Ring is pretty much useful for any character build (at the very least, it helps you get back Stamina to dodge roll), and obviously the +1 is better, so if you got a spare Branch, it's worth the quick detour. There are some other neat things (I believe the basilisks in this area can be used to farm Infusion Stones pretty easy, although you can fight those in Things Betwixt if you used your Branch there, too), but I'll leave the more elaborate things for you to discover.

One of the things I love so much about DS2 over DS1, is that it's got a more metroidvania feel to it, because of the Branches and Pharros Keys. There's a ton of secrets too. When I started my second character, there are like a dozen little areas that I didn't notice on my first character.

Yeah, the only reason I even knew how to open them, was because I missed the switch in No Man's Warf that makes the boss appear (in fact, I constantly missed a ton of these switches in other areas, they blend into the background so easy). So, I watched a YouTube video on No Man's Warf, and the guy giving the walkthrough showed where one was in that area. Even after I went to that spot and opened the secret door, I didn't even know "how" I did it, until much later, when I stumbled onto another one thanks to the community messages left laying about. You'd think they would include at least one hidden door, in Things Betwixt.

PervertSnake Apr 18, 2021 @ 12:06pm
i press X ps3/ps4 controller .
Rafaelz Apr 18, 2021 @ 12:55pm
That also happened, but it has to be attaked like in ds1 and ds3
You have no idea how maddening it is trying to show somebody in co-op a secret wall only for them to attack it 50 times before giving up. One of the most aggravating things to witness in this game I swear lol.

Yep i saw that today xD. the guy was put the false message about illusory wall and i was tried like 10 mins to open it but then i finally understand it was a false message
yavex Apr 18, 2021 @ 5:06pm
YES beware of false messages people just like to mess with other players out of their own amusement. If the wall wont open then it's probably not true. But for the pharrons walls try to use the keys carefully. As you may use one on a wall that doesn't benefit you as much as say the next one. Do some research to see what is behind some walls before you use the keys
