I heard about Big Picture mode and it's a true info : Character name gets extended a lot. So if you met someone with too long name, don't rush to judge him in cheating, try it out by yourself!

how it works??

Change Steam to Big Picture mode, and then start DS2 from there.

Once you get to the part where you enter your name, the Big Picture text-entry-screen will flash up, instead of the usual method of typing in a name with the keyboard (sometimes the text-entry-screen will flash up and then disappear, you may have to open the entry screen several times before it stays up).

If you enter your name through the Big Picture text-entry-screen, the game will ignore the length limit for names. You still won't be able to use restricted characters and symbols, but you can make the name basically as long as you want.

Just tried it: definitely works. I wish I knew it earlier, when I was struggling with coming up with a good but not overlong name. Like Rupert Daniel McGooberson III.
But when I tried a ridiculously long name, the game crashed. Although I don't know if that was the cause.

I can confirm this works, i have a character called "Lorea of the Great Swamp" with Big Picture method, really cool. The bad thing is noobs or people dont know about this, they think you are a hacker, sadly...

The game will still crash if you attempt to make a name longer than 27 characters.
That's likely the limit to one line of text and the game doesn't support multiple lines for a name. It's probably also related to the longest NPC name.

I tried this once a long time ago but maybe I did it wrong, because I still was restricted to normal letter limit. I'm pretty damn creative when it comes to making character names with that letter limit, but being able to create longer names will help a lot with really unique characters.

Thanks. I'm kind of focused on a Dark Souls 1 character I'm doing right now, but you'll know when I do a new Dark Souls 2 character . I'll upload a screenshot or two when I make it.

Sure, maybe with a different character though. This one is tricky and I need to spend a lot of time farming souls (you'll see why later when I upload a screenshot of it).
