My tactic is circling around him at a moderate distance, and when he makes his move, I roll under his attack *towards him*. It's quite scary at first, almost looks suicidal, but once you get the hang of it, it's a really good tactic: Not only you avoid getting hit, but you end up positioned just right to take a hit of your own.
Once I land a hit, I roll away *just once*; so I get some distance that will let me study his next attack, but I'm still close enough to repeat.
Be mindful of your stamina at all times. It's better to miss a chance to hit and let it refill to 100%, and not getting caught empty too close to him.
My favorite attacks against him are the R2 of a two-handed halberd (with a resin if you can get one) or the L2 of power-stanced falchions. Every opening he gives you is just enough time for one of those attacks, and they can be pretty devastating. Hell, if he does the curse sword thing, you might even land two blows in a row (mind that stamina, though!).
It's all pretty basic and probably nothing you don't already know, I know, but there's really not much more to him. I used to be terrified of him, but once I learned his timings, I actually started to look forward to fighting him over and over again; he's about the most fun I have with the game.
He's also *great* practice. If you're good enough against the Pursuer, there's nothing in PVE you can't deal with. Just now I was surprised when I took down Non-Ornstein in my first try, considering how much trouble he gave me the first time I played the game \[T]/
Actually, standing in front also makes sense: In fact, I don't remember getting hit ever when I was close to him, so I guess the bombs are only live after they get some distance.
when you die over 10 times to a boss you eventually dream his patterns, hunting pursuers spawn points is my favorite thing ever.(lately)
