What happened to the DLC Keys???
Hey guys, I have Scholar for a couple years (since 2015 I guess) and I got back to play it with a PC that can run it properly and seems that this whole server problem also affected the access to DLC content, since I don't receive the DLC keys when I create my character anymore. Can someone help me with that or is it a problem that only I'm having with the game???

The game whose forums you're currently on has never had dlcs. It was perfect from the start ((:

Admittedly, I haven't been here long enough to ses the 1.0 version of SOTFS, so there may have been differences at that point from the current patch.

Dude... You know that Scholar of The First Sin is a VERSION of Dark Souls 2 that includes the previous DLCs, right?

Well...technically speaking...scholar of the first sin counts as a distinct game (from dark souls 2), so scholar of the first sin contains the dlc of dark souls 2, but the game 'Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin' doesn't have a DLC.

It actually counts as a update, not a distinct game, since you can upgrade vanilla to become Scholar and both are fundamentally the same game.

Well yes but no but yes: on PS4 (iirc), you simply can't get vanilla and the games tend to be made for console and then ported over, so technically there are no dlc.
But yes we're obviously just arguing dumb semantics lol

they're separate games in the library

You miss my point. They're not just separate games in the library, they're different games.

Look into any ds2 wiki, and it will have two distinct entries for many items: one for PS3/X360/DX9 version, and one for PS4/XONE/DX11 version.

Buying all dlcs for ds2 means just appending dlcs to the vanilla. Buying SOTFS, on the other hand, significantly revamps the game by changing the graphics interface, remixing enemies and items, opening up new shortcuts etc.

What is called SOTFS for ps3 is very different from SOTFS for ps4 as a resullt. The ps3 game is just vanilla with dlcs, while the ps4 one is the revamped version. They're two separate games in your Steam library for a reason. Spoiler: It's 'cause they are

Okay, let's put it this way

Are Dark Souls PTDE and Dark Souls Remastered the same game?
Whatever your answer to that question is, the same answer would apply to DX9 SOTFS vs DX11 SOTFS.

You have memories of something I only know to be part of the DX9 version. DX9 SOTFS had all dlc keys spawn in your inventory, because it was only adding to the game, not changing anything from the base game. You cannot find keys in the game when the game is left untouched.

DX11 SOTFS, on the other hand, already had all dlcs pre-packed, and was already messing with various aspects of the base game. It seems the devs simply decided to make dlcs a more oorganic part of the experience by hiding the keys in various places.

Dude, they're just different versions of the same game, like a Update. They are fundamentally the same thing!

Yes, Prepare To Die and Remastered are the same game and Prepare isn't on the store anymore because Bandai is stupid. You know the REAL reason because there are the two versions of the same game? Yep, it's MONEY. And I know there ARE differences, but again, they are different VERSIONS, not different GAMES. It's still the same code, the same content and the same assets, the only changes being some new additions and changes of text or positioning of items. It's not a different game, it's just a different version, a update, a expansion!

I see. I suppose we're just arguing semantics. I don't disagree with you fundamentally, but we're not really arguing whether these two are different just for the sake of it. The point is to make sense of the dlc keys you suddenly found missing from your inventory. I hope I provided a good enough illustration of why that happened.

I already got past that problem, I was able to find them in their locations on the game. My confusion is that it didn't happen on the past, I really just needed to create the character and the granny just gave me the keys. But anyway, I got them already so that's cool.

Scholar of the first sin is a completely different executable/game in your library. Its a repackaged version of the game with updated enemy placement and slightly different encounters. You do not get the keys in your inventory to start. The only way you ever get the keys in your inv from the start is if you own the original DX9 version of the game with DLCs purchased. The original game was never updated into SOFTS, if you owned the original you still need to purchase SOFTS separately. Im sorry to tell you this but you remember wrong.

Of course you do, but the keys are found in the world.
