Stay close to it until it opens. When it opens, back off until it's done attacking, then run in and hit it 3 or 4 times. Rinse and repeat.

mostly solo but this one boss i just cant beat on my own no matter what i do. its not that i die to it that much but i need someone to distract it while i can heal

If he just had bad luck you just try again. It really isn't a hard boss, geting to it is much harder then anything it have. I have ranged it, I have soloed it, I have cooped it, I have meeled it and I have killed it every way you can kill it. Never had a problem with it. Its a really easy boss, thats why I ask "how did you even get there" because if you can get to it you have the skills to kill it.

Why try again solo if it's more maintainable with some jolly coop? Congratulations to you for finishing the boss fifty ways to sunday, but everybody's not you.

Its really one of those bosses that is considered by the whole DS2 community as one of the easiest bosses in the whole game since DS2 was released. I don't think your argument stand because if the majority think its one of the easiest bosses my statement that its one of the easiest is on par with the majority opinion about the boss. If you have a real problem against it its more you that have the problem and not everyone else.
