Am I unlucky or is the drop rate supposed to be this low?
I had been thinking about using the Black Dragon Sword. Not too hard, just kill a few Black Dragon Knights... My soul memory is at 393K. Well I was hopeful. Started off by killing the 2 in the house near the 2nd drakekeeper, which eventually despawned. Then I went on to the black dragon knight near the 3rd dragon ring and exhausted the spawn as well. I was like, oh well that's unfortunate... 36 kills and no sword. I went to the huge *** stairs and started farming there. There were a total of 6 spawns over there. I killed them untill they exhausted. Result: 96 kills, 4 shields, an axe, a warpick and 2 dragon scales. I joined the Company of Champions and killed 32 more for 2 more shields and finally a sword. I don't know how I got the warpick as no enemy had a warpick equipped, atleast not the ones I killed.

Yeah its bad. Join the champion covanent to make them spawn forever but it makes them harder and summons cant be summoned. Wear things that boost drop rate, look online for that as their is a lot of gear to help.

Farming the imperfects in Shulva. Killed all of them 4 or 5 times. Rusted coin, gold serpent ring, watchdragon shield involved.

CONGRATS. YOU WON A PETRIFIED DRAGON BONE. YEAH A SINGLE ONE. MARVELOUS ISN'T IT.

Black dragon sword:
It really really rare - first time i farmed for it it took me ~25 runs (whole dragon shrine) - my secind char was lucky enough to get one on the first run...

monastary longshirt:
It took me 20(!) tries to get one on the infamous first char - every time the red phantom dropped an item, but not the longshirt....

Champion's Covenant = Infinite Respawns, a literal must if you plan on farming stuff.
Also, use items that heightens item discovery. Jester's Cap, Traveling Merchant Hat, Prisoner's Hood, Prisoner's Tatters, Symbol of Avarice (20% if I am not wrong, crazy good), Watchdragon Parma and last but not least, Covetous Gold Serpent Ring+2.
You can use Rusted Coins to further increase drop rate.

Hope this helps!

I used a Jester's cap, watchdragon parma, gold serp ring +2 and used 34 rusted coins. Trust me I tried to use item recovery stuff... Killing them was a pain with fists only.

As i mentioned in a thread ~1 month ago:
As for gold serpent ring (increases the amount of drops) + champions covenant i agree -
BUT:

The drops seem to be separated in tiers - and every character has its own starting tier (explains why some chars get rare stuff on first trys through the whole game, whereas you have to farm for 30min with another one....)

With the different clothes you can raise your tier till max, but after max tier you start at tier 0 again (common drops)

NOTE: This is just guessing from my experience and can't really be proven - except fby fromsoft themself - since random drop systems are pretty random

one might think so, but one piece is usually more rare than the other one (on my second it was the skirt that took ages to get)

In my experience with the monastery stuff (only interested in longshirt), 1st kill boots, 2nd kill gloves, 3rd kill skirt, 4th kill longshirt.

Attempt 2, kill 1 skirt, kill 2 longshirt.

Attempt 3, kill 1 longshirt

Attempt 4, Kill 1 longshirt.

It's random in my eyes.

The Drakekeeper weapons and Black Dragon weapons ALL have notoriously low drop rates. I haven't once gotten the Drakekeepers to drop their weapons, even though I farmed them until they stopped respawning!

Also (and this is just a personal complaint), Black Dragon weapons should upgrade with dragon scales, not petrified dragon bones. The supply of bones one receives in a game is already fairly low, and we need those things to upgrade the grand total of two or three boss weapons we ever plan on using. Dragon scales literally serve no purpose after you fully rank up in the dragon covenant, which takes a grand total of a couple of hours. If you keep initiating pvp with your dragon eye, you'll end up with a bunch of dragon scales in your inventory that serve no purpose whatsoever. The dragon weapons in the first game were upgraded with dragon scales, so why not the dragon weapons in this game? Ultimately, it isn't a big deal, but it is just a little annoying.

Less than 1% drop rate even with full item find equipment is beyond notoriously low in my eyes. Farmed those items to help people out in 39K SM (and dueling at the BoB arena) and well trying to help people gets you punished xD.

doesnt the drop rate for items increase after youve thinned out their numbers and then burn a bonfire ascetic? I get a humanity almost every time from the hounds and a cracked red eye orb from the boards (previously little pigletts) in majula

It's a mere theory. I exhaustednall spawns and proceeded to join the company of champions to make them respawn again
