You can watch this guide for early + weapon, the weapon in the video is also a Rapier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVcLXCya70Y.
Hey :D
Just before posting i watched this op rapier guide, that's why i've made this post.
Mostly i did gs/ultra gs runs due to large dmg/poise breaking and it's fun to use :D
Long run with rapier is valiable ? or maybe Katanas works better? :D
The Rapier itself isn't the best thrusting sword, but by far the most efficient one, which is why it's the perfect challenge run weapon.
The DPS you can get with RoB/Flynn's/Leo at only 12 DEX is absurd. The reason, why speedrunners use this one (among the Mace as a backup, which also only needs 12 STR) is overall consistency as a result of it's overall stats and damage-type. Thrust-type damage less resisted overall in PvE, slash-type, which is why you don't see the Uchigatana used in top-speedruns. Strike is even less resisted, but often on slow, high req weapons, which is why some like to have a Mace as backup (usually only 100% speedruns, which don't skip Iron Keep).
I already played as hexer and pyromancer, tried miracles but they are useless as ♥♥♥♥ (outshined by other forms of magic-based builds)
Sorcerer with rapier would be okay? :)
Ice Rapier would be better though, since you'll have access to buffs as a caster. Buffs scale with the weapon's base AR, which is often higher infused. The Ice Rapier barely loses physical damage infused, so it's perfect for caster builds. This is also the reason, the Ice Rapier in particular is considered OP. With Crystal Magic Weapon, Flynn's, Old Leo Ring and infused, you'll hit for ~800 damage on counter hits against most non-DLC enemies.
But i'll try ice rapier
I always though Leo Ring only works when you parry+ripose enemies D:
Dude you're my saviour :D
The crit-damage ring always was "Hornet's Ring" in souls-games, but DSII doesn't have that one.
Early game you'll be doing fine, but late game you'll be doing tons of damage! It's a really cool build.
