Do I have to use a fragrant branch at the last bastille to progress?
Or is there another way around? Also, another quick question. If I use a bonfore ascetic at heide tower, will the heide knights still agro me? Because I plan on using an ascetic and cheesing the dragonrider again so I can get his soul for the bow.

You don't need to. It's possible to get to the next area if you come in from No-Man's Wharf. Not sure about the ascetic thing, unfortunately.

Yeah there are two ways into Lost Bastille. One is by beating the Pursuer in FoFG, which I'm assuming is the path you took, and two is by defeating the Dragonrider and venturing through No-Man's Wharf which takes you to the back part of Lost Bastille which can take you straight to Lost Sinner.

As for the bonfire ascetic usage, I can't say. Haven't done so myself. I'm only aware the heide knights aggro when Dragonrider is beaten, but if you resurrect him via bonfire ascetic, will that numb out the Dragonrider's previous defeat? I'm gonna make a hypothesis that, yes, Heide knights will aggro simply because the purpose of the bonfire ascetic is to makes the area harder. So you MAY be aggro'd by Heide knights and dealing with some red phantoms. Just a guess. I could be completely wrong.

Yeah, the heide knights dont agro you now. But I kinda screwed up, I used the ascetic BEFORE i killed old dragonslayer, so I will probably be screwed for a while before I can get strong enough to defeat all the enemies to get to him. Is he a required boss? What do you exactly get for beating him

You get the Old Leo Ring and his soul can make a decent spear. You also get access to the Blue Sentinels Covenant.

The only way to get to the Lost Sinner (who's a required boss) is to defeat either the Pursuer in FoFG or Dragonrider, because they bother take you to either side of Lost Bastille where Lost Sinner is.

He just drops souls, but you can use his soul to buy his weapons. I think you can buy a dragonrider shield, spear, and a bow

Oh my bad, I misread Dragonslayer as Dragonrider. LoL

Dragonslayer is completely optional. As Astin said, he drops Old Leo Ring which is a good thrust counter-attack damage booster and leads to a covenant. I think with Dragonslayer's soul you can buy a twinblade

Alright cool, I guess i'll just ignore this place completely unless i really need to get something from him. And also, how exactly do I get to sinners rise from the boat entrance to the bastille? I never knew you could get there from there and have been using my branches every time i got to this area lol

Once you descend to the area with the Pursuer, there should be a breakable wall to your right. From there, you should be able to figure out the way.

It's a spear, heretic. Dragonslayer spear.

You go through No-Man's Wharf, which is another entire area and you have to beat a mini boss on a ship, but it's worth it if you want to save your branch of yore. It takes you to the prison cells of Lost Bastille in which you can take a route leading to a mini cage lift that takes you to Straide, which you can use your branch of yore to unpetrify and trade boss items with. From that area, you just go across the bridge to another tower that takes you down to where Lost Sinner is.
