what's the top down 1-hit KO game that's sorta the same premise? where it's all awesome boss fights and skill matters more than anything else? i haven't played it, but it is a bit similar and i was kinda tempted to play it, to my surprise even though there's not really enough depth to keep me interested.

I dare you to play it - you will come back to Dark Souls crying, while happy about how fair and upbeat it is.

Naming an oldie is kinda cheating. Considering the oldies are what all of these games are based on anyway.
Btw, another great one, Maximo. It's a 3D platformer, but a damn great one.
