After you beat the Pursuer in the forest and you fly to the Lost Bastille. There are 2 chests, one of them contains the ember.

Just beat The Pursuer in Forest of Fallen Giants, proceed past his boss arena, and examine the nest. Chest is right there.

you have to parry the smelter demon. then ring swap and sign into GFWL then riposte to get it.

Defeat the Pursuer in Forest of the Fallen Giants, use the nest beyond it, the hawk will pick you up and send you to the Lost Bastille, there will be two chests there, one of them carries the Dull Ember.

i found it, finally. but i'm very furios on creators of dark souls because i think it's very very NOT professional to put a piece very important for player in a such a place.
i mention that i already had 3 of 4 big souls in a game when i need this piece to infuse my weapons ... AND if u don't kill the Pursuer which it's not a key soul for the game and you reach to such a level, u cannot infuse your weapons because that bonfire where you find dull ember can be reached ONLY after you are "teleported" by large hawk.
i'm very dissapointed.

I don't see the problem here. Was it a problem to put the Large Ember (which I'd say is far more important in its respective game than any infusion in this game) in the Depths, which is also optional? I see it as a reward for exploring and taking down an optional boss. As someone who played this game blind and never played the original DS2, Pursuer was my second boss.

i must tell that in original ds2 dull ember was in Iron Keep and not conditioned to kill a soul such less important as Pursuer. the problem for me it's not the place but the condition. in great games like this you must not be conditioned to cover the entire pallete of (sub)tasks to finish the game. you will said that you can finish game without using dull ember .... but that will be a pain without beeing helped by mcduff ...
well, that's only my opinion of course.

It's only a pain if you need to infuse your weapons, if you just go physical, then that doesn't matter at all.
I think this location is better, having to go all the way to Iron Keep before being able to infuse weapons? That seemed entirely too long if your character needed their weapon to be infused, Pursuer is early game and thus you reach it faster. Besides, you still don't need to do the optional bosses at all.

Really, McDuff's only purpose is infusing, you can get large titanite shards elsewhere and the other blacksmiths will upgrade your weapons to +10 anyway.
