You watch videos about vanilla dks2, not sotfs.
You need a fragrant branch yore to get access to that location.

You get plenty of them during the game. One of them is sold by a merchant in the forest of fallen giants. Others are laying on corpses in the whole world.
You'll find more petrified statues where you have to use a branch.

Yeah, don't unpetrify that statue, it'll REALLY mess you up later-game, you won't have enough to either fight one of the easier bosses, get a special vendor, or get pyromancy spells until quite a bit later.

It doesn't mess OP up like you stated dramatically.
You get enough to unpetrify everything.
It'll just limit his choices of progressing through the game at the start.

There's nothing there, accept a coffin that changes your gender, where most others either unlock vendors or allow you to progress the "easy" way, it's much better to wait until you get to the Saltfort Bonfire since the ogres are quite tough until later in the game, and all you get from it is a ladle.

True, but it doesn't mess anything up seriously.
Let him enjoy his 1st playthrough with as little spoilers as possible.

That's not entirely true, there is an Estus Flask Shard in there, as well as another Pursuer encounter for 1 Twinkling Titanite, you also have to go in there to summon the secret Red Phantom because there are sconces that need to be lit in there. The Basilisks also provide a way to farm infusion stones very early on. It's actually one of the better ways to use a Branch early on, unless you really want to get through the Shaded Woods early, or don't want to skip the Ruin Sentinels.
