Is it worth forgoing flynn ring to wear heavier armor?
I'm at lvl 160ish now and doing a no-magic build, so hp maxed, strength maxed, stamina not maxed but yielding very little return of points spent, so I find myself with a lot of extra points. If I put a lot of those into carry capacity so I can wear heavier armor (currently using alva), is the increased defense worth the dmg loss from losing the flynn ring bonus? If so, which armors should I look to get? This is a PvE build and I have no interest in pvp. Completed main game, doing DLC now and then NG+ probably.

Well you can always use the ring of blades +2 instead.

I already use that. I use third dragon, cloranthy+2, blades+2 and flynn

Heavy armor gives you poise. Dunno what weapons you're using, but actually only GHammers, GAxies, UGS and Curved GS profit from poise due to their hyperarmor frames during swings.
So, if you don't use mentioned weaponclasses, I'd actually look for ELEMENTAL defenses, these make in higher NGs actually a difference (if you get oneshotted or not).
Alonne Knight and Captain armor, Old Knight armor have good poise-weight ratio. You can take a closer look here:

Physical defense doesn't really matter to be honest. Heavy armor's only real use is poise, and like Archer stated, if you're not using a weapon with hyperarmor frames, you don't have a reason to wear it.

Light armor with high element resists master race.

I pretty much dumped flyns ring for heavier armor, because they looked better. Soooo my advise would be, find the armor you like (because of its looks) and check if its neseccary to invest those points.

It depends on what build you got...if you have a fast weapon that has less dmg output per hit, then use rob+2/flynn. Piecing weapon/leo/rob+2/flynn = ridiculous damage.

Ok thanks, I prefer reasonably light and fast weapons, so I guess poise isn't that big a deal for me. Using the Alva set right now, which other sets should I be on the lookout for?
