richards rapier vs rapier? whats better

a rapier gets 165+ scaling at level 4, but my level 4 richards only get 120 even though it scales S in DEx, so why is it so much better in ppls eyes

They have slightly different movesets. Ricard's is a bit more situational.

Well, they are quite different weapons even though they're part of the same piercing family. Rapiers are really useful for parrying and stabbing while maintaining a 140 counter damage, whereas ricard's rapier has a special attack that rapidly hits opponents 7 times in quick succession, which can be useful for poison and bleed infusions. Depending on how you use them, they can both be decent.

A pure dex benefits from ricard's as its scaling is greater than the str+dex scaling combined of rapier. Even with higher base damage, you still need a good amount of str until rapier takes over. If you want the rapier moveset, there's a better thrust that's stronger than both.

Would that be the chaos rapier? (but i thought split damage......)

You want a pure damage +10 Rapier.
