Most underrated weapons
To try our best to counteract this stale ice rapier, blacksteel katana, chaos blade - meta, I thought it'd be entertaining to start a thread about some weapons that are good, but rarely get much love.

For me it's gotta be the Drakeblood sword, it looks bloody beautiful with its slender design, and the mixed damage alongside its S dex scaling has made it a favorite of mine for powerstancing.

Second is probably Yorghs spear. With everybody seemingly showering Santiers, pate, and the Dragonslayer ones with praise, I personally stick with the one weapon that has absolutely no spear moves in its library. The damage is quite ridiculous, with the only real downside being the amount of stamina it consumes.

Well I've never seen anyone else use it.

When I came into DS2 from DS1, I was hoping it would be just as powerful as it was in the first game. I was let down slightly as you couldn't R1 spam on turtling enemies like you could in the first one and shieldbreak them, but after using it for a while, I got used to the new Hand-Axe. It's still a pretty good weapon.

Agreed, that thing can be nasty.

I mean, everything with the generic axe moveset is nasty, but the Hand Axe is super overlooked because everyone assumes it to be a trash starting weapon, when really it's like a bandit axe, without the dumb damage.

The beasty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Hand-Axe.
Fast swings? Check.
Low stamina usage? Check.
Capable of surpassing 500 AR? Check.
Good parry frames when 2h'ing? Check.
Good tracking? Check.
Good move-set? Check.
25 poise damage? Checkaroni.
Almost has the same poise damage as a greathammer when using the Stone Ring with it? Check.
Can be used in literally any build by putting a few points into strength and infusing it with your chosen element? Check.

It might be a good weapon, but it's fashion-souls aspect is disastrous.....

everything in the game if you are just good and not bandwagon

honestly, I never realized how amazing the light crossbow was until I started a deprived build (that I'm eventually planning on going full scumbag and abusing mundane infusion on). Because of this, I'm gonna throw out that any non-avelyn/sanctum crossbow is underrated.

What are you talking about. It doesn't get overlooked it's a meta weapon along with battle axe and bandit axe (those are just filthy).

I never ever saw a Sanctum Repeating Crossbow. Really.

I use one in combination with a Raw Handaxe (there ya go Hatrix!) at 10 STR/20 DEX with an Uchigatana and a Raw Bandit's Knive and a Parrying Dagger in a Cosplay. Man, that things special was devastating. Medium range, no tracking, but like 10 mini-Dark Orbs that are crushing into the opppnent. Punish a strike that doesn't have the reach to hurt you? Power up the crossbow right when the opponent is attacking and profit. Opponent and you are on low HP and he pulls out a Rapier? You pull out the crossbow, interrupt his poor tries to finish you with baby pokes and kill him. Boom. Nuff said. Even if you hit only with a single orb it staggers like crazy.

The regular Handaxe IS overlooked.
Buffed Battle and Bandit's Axe however are meta weapons. Preferably with Engraved Gauntlets. Praise the 1h running attack spam with 2 R2s as a followup that everyone uses and that hits like a truck.

It ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sold me when I found out the parry frames on it come out quick as hell when 2h'ing it. Literally no reason to even use a shield with that thing, frees up your left-hand. I've parried invaders with that thing and riposted them for ridiculous damage, I usually infuse and buff the hand-axe in PvE, it absolutely wrecks.

But like I said, short range. It's harder to use against bosses like the Demon of Song. I did parry Velstadt three times in a row with it, so there's that.

Stryke(r) Nov 21, 2015 @ 3:05pm
- mace of the insolent
- eleum loyce
- ivory straight sword
- spider's silk
- sanctum shield
- great machete

none of those is superior damagewise but they are okish and totally underrated
Forlorn greatsword and dark pyromancy flame while fully hollowed. Seriously, even if you have to trade some health, those things can hit like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ train.

me: Looking at this sword. Poor base damage. no scaling. I think: Ok, maybe low level equip. I see the requirements: 40 DEX. Me F*ck this.

After a while, taking a closer look in the wiki: strike damage, dagger crit modifier, it has a lightsaber. WOW COOL! It consumes much durability per strike, but who cares.

Then: Watching MrIwont4get's review: 300 backstab damage. poor damage. No range. It REQUIRES the bracing knuckle ring.

-> I never used it. Never. I don't wanna waste PDBs for that thing.

Ring of Binding saves those builds. 80% max HP as opposed to 50%.

"underrated"
ahahahahahahahahahahaha no

I see this thing at least once a day. The fact that it blocks while attacking pretty much makes it.
Goldent Nov 21, 2015 @ 3:44pm
Dont know if it's been mentioned yet but Red rust sword is a favorite of mine. Good move set good dmg, A scaling at +5 very good all around imo.
