White Soapstone not working

Hello me and my fiance have been playing dark souls 2 sotfs for a long time now. We're extremely familiar with the puzzling nature of ds2, but have stumbled upon the same exact issue we had almost a year ago when we played regular ds2.

The issue is, after some time in game the Large or regular white sign soapstone doesnt appear to work anymore. Not as grayed out, no no. It doesnt show up for either of us anymore when we summon eachother...as in I place my sign down and she places hers down or just one of us, and the sign is there but it doesnt show up for the other person. The small one only does. We use the name engraved ring, have a proper soul memory distance, are appropriate level distances and just made sure again with the calculator for ds2. We just abandoned our convents as a guide stated that could be a conflicting issue.

So as I said after some time randomly the regular soapstone stops working but the Small one continues to work. I dont know what in the world could be causing the issue. We traveled to every uncovered zone so far and tried it, the small one always works but the large one has stopped.

Any ideas? We are close in soul memory and levels are about 2 away from eachother at present time. All of this started after we killed the last giant in the forest. The previous time almost a year ago was around the point when we got into drangleic castle so we have pregressive differences as to this issue.

The small sign works but big sign doesnt work? Are you sure that you are in the appropriate soul memory? The small sign always has bigger summon range. Just check this site to make sure you guys are in the same tier: http://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/Summon+Range+Calculator

Also you cant summon when the area boss has been beaten. maybe try another?

The area boss thats it...we made the same exact mistake again lol. So once the area boss has been beaten we can still use the small soapstone ive noticed. Is that accurate or a major malfunction? lol. I just want to be 100% certain....everything was working fine until the damned giant...so i wonder if the large soapstone will work on the pursuer portion of the fort? With the Balistas.

well if the small sign still working Im sure there is no problem with your game, its just the mechanic sometimes can be confusing. There is one thing I know for sure that you cannot summon once the area boss is defeated. maybe go to the next area and try the big soap again
