A question about respec-ing

I haven't been able to find anything about this, but when you respec, how many souls are lost?

per wiki on soul vessel "Souls WILL be lost by using this item, but you cannot gain souls or lower your Soul Level by saving Soul Level Points"
so how do I know the number of souls lost?

None. Using a Soul Vessel just allows you to re-spec your points. I'm not sure why the description says that.

You don't "lose" any souls by using a soul vessel. No clue why the wiki states that in such an odd way. You begin and end the process with the exact same number of souls, always.

Yes and no... If you play through the game and it's DLCs, you end up with like 12 soul vessels or something. I respec'd about three times already and I still have 14 soul vessels left, but I'm on NG+. So really, you have quite a few. :)

Soul Vessles can be farmed with bonfire aesetic. There's no limit.

There should be an achievement for finding bad information on Fextralife. My favorite is the list of Fragrant Branches, where it has the Gutter once twice, described two different ways.

you lose the item as it is a consumable. I think it means souls will be lost if you don't realocate them

You might already know this, but just so it's stated explicitly: as far as I know, you have to take the Soul Vessel to the old Fire Keeper who you set your character up with at the beginning to respec. I think you lose the souls or something if you try to just use it by yourself (although I don't know, I haven't tried it) which might explain the article somewhat.

That's why I avoid it and use Wikidot, the only 'wrong' thing I've seen on it is stat req for Gargoyle Bident under spears but then I clicked it and it had the right numbers on the page itself.

Concerning the thread itself, I think the 'drain' thing means using it without the Firekeeper like a dofus.

Yeah same here. I'm sick and tired of reading "WELL WHEN I TESTED IT IT DID MOR DAMGE THN THAT U ♥♥♥♥♥." on Fextralife. Their layout is cancerous as hell as well.

Wikidot is nice and plain and states the information I want in an easy format.

In the gutter there are 2 branches :D The wikidot also was wrong and said only 1, i sent a message but i dont know if someone fixed it.

Yea, wikidot is the best :D but of course has some mistakes, for example it said that the "spell uses replenish" crown got a nerf after the blessing, but i asked here and some user confirmed it didnt. Also it had mistakes with branches, i did a message in the forums and they did some adjustments.

Aaaand... i never farmed soul vessels, but i think the best place is the memories. U use an ascetic in the 4rth forest bonfire, this reset the 3 memories. First u do one of the memories where u get a soul vessel, then u do the Lord giant memory where u get an ascetic (or in another memory, or in both?), after defeatin the boss u can repeat again. In each round u get 1 soul vessel and 1 ascetic, so u get soul vessels for free WITHOUT using ascetics at all, the only downside, defeat the giant lord each time. But u dont have to farm ascetics

I think the "second" Gutter one you mean is technically in Black Gulch, at the start. Fextralife has that, but it also counts the "first" Gutter one twice, described two different ways.

Wikidot is definately missing some though; you're right. I know of 17 that I have in my own text file, and Wikidot only has 14. Maybe I can add to it. I actually tried registering Fextralife and fixing their Soul Vessle page over this thread, but it's locked...
