Are we back in the dark ages (lol) of Dark Souls, where other people chime in on the "right" way to play a single player game?

When I did speedruns, nobody cared that I ran past enemies, and I wasn't punished for it because I know what I'm doing.

If someone else wants to despawn the map, they can absolutely do that. If someone wants to play slow and patient, that's an option too. They're all correct ways. I'm surprised I have to say this in 2024 lmfao.

All i know is i've seen people trying to run past the enemies to get to the boss while yelling and getting mad and calling the game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because they're getting overcrowded, or can't get past an enemies hitbox, or this and that or the other thing.

Meanwhile i just fight everything one at a time along the way and make it to the boss room in one life, while they die no less then five times in the same amount of time.

I'm just working on experience here. Fighting enemies = good time, ignoring enemies = bad time.

That's cool, so those folks don't know what they're doing. They'll figure it out, just like everyone else does.

This game is not hard.
It is made to annoy you.
Today I killed the Fume Knight for the first time, he was the only boss so far that killed me more than 5 times - he did it like 25 times lol.
Then I went to see Blue Smelter. After reaching him once and seeing the path to him, I just left.
So I went to see Alonne. After reaching him once and dying, I said ♥♥♥♥ it and I don't plan to go back to this DLC. Not because it is hard, but because it is STUPIDLY annoying at every step. It is one thing to place enemies on the way to the boss, it is another thing to SPAM enemies on the way and make it purposefully impossible to go around them - either by adding mages/slowing enemies in unreachable places to mess you up or literally placing enemies in the doorframe.

"Just kill them 12 times, easy" hell no, I have other games to play. This is not a solution, this is a band-aid they put in place after someone realized how stupid some of the runs to bosses are.

Blue Smelter was designed with co-op in mind, which is why it is more dense with mobs. If you roll around 25% equip load you can take the short-cuts via the levers, which would be the "single player" route to that boss. As for the run to Sir Alonne, that has exactly two sticking points and the rest is super easy. I get that you are annoyed, but calling the 12-enemy despawn a band-aid makes no sense when Covenant of Champions exists.

Man, don't try NG+, they add MORE enemies to some of those spots. You probably won't like it.

or you can just time dodge and pass all enemies . they dont folow you to next areas. kill cleric at last area and avoid giant

Most bosses have a bonfire at or near their fog wall, that said the smelter run is probably the most obstructive, dodging arrows and katana mobs that can and will hit you through the wall as you enter the room is probably the only one that outright sucks.

Except..... This game literally punishes you harder than any other game for fighting every enemy with soul memory.... The game can be run through I do it all the time. The game is just as frustrating wether or not you just got hit by the dragonrider on your 15th run to velstadt, or you died on the last turtle golem of Iron Keep after wiping out every other enemy after getting invaded by forlorn. I'd actually argue the second is a lot more frustrating and punishing.
That false and your words proves that.
Dragonrider in crypt doesnt respawn after being killed, its an elite enemy mini-boss.

Iron keep isnt really hard, as many claims and turtle attacks very predictable. Except "turtle shell" attack, that one is bs.

The hardest run to me every single time without question is Shrine of Amana, how anyone can answer anything different is beyond me, this is such a badly designed and difficult area for melee builds.
There only 1 actually hard fight in entire area with 5 bonfires, so thats definitely skill issue.
I could show no roll-melee only in one go on stream to prove that.

Thats only work until NG+4, when they add additional red version of cleric near golem.

So you either fighting archer, one regular cleric and red version and golem with hammer at the same time or run pass, but red cleric will cast Silence and Walk of Peace when you enter Blue Smelter Demon arena.

use a bow or crossbow. If you keep playing melee for no reason then it is your own fault.

purely out of curiosity what's so bad about Shrine of Amana as a melee user?
I've only ever went through Shrine of Amana as a melee user and I never struggled with it, found undead crypt infinitely more annoying whereas Shrine of Amana was actually kinda fun
I kinda wanna know what people hate about it so much
Shrine is not that bad. This only took me a couple of takes to get:

just begining is kinda annoying you eighter need kill 5 casters or 2 casters and one extra buffed iron knight dodging them with low AGL is pain which most people dont level up . i dont reccomed skip enemies but its doable too

you can force red cleric to drop down if you stay under him for while . he will try to get close and drop down . but yeah its annoying . no reason to fight smelter eighterway at that point
