The Engraved Ring lets you pick from a list of 'gods' once you equip it. Whichever god you pick, you'll only see summon signs of people wearing the ring set to the same god. Vice versa, others will only see your sign if they're on the same god.
Basically, makes private coop a bit easier.
Well, not everyone gets the idea that you want to be summoned by someone specific.
Anyways, with how cheap the ring is, it's worth grabbing. It has the additional benefit of increasing the Soul Memory range for summons, so either you or your friend can be a bit further in the game and still summon eachother.
I was referring moreso to the 'googleforidiots' thing. I know this is the DS community we're talking about here, but it's not hard not to be toxic.
I'm not saying anything against using Google, but there's no point in sitting here insulting people for not using it.
