Hexer Starting Help
Hello all. I recently started a hexer (as a Sorcerer) I got both my faith to 20 and in to 22 and I did the cheese strategy on the dragonrider(or whatever his name is) so I can talk to the dude and get my hexer set. After accomplishing all that I was curious to know if it's worth it to dump some points into str/dex so I can wield the Fire Longsword and/or farm for the Heide Knight Sword. And use one of those w/ a shield. OR if I will be just fine as a hexer only. I know I'm only a couple SL in at the moment, I do plan to get my atn up so I can use more spells. I'm just curious to know if it's worth getting dex/str up and if so how much. Should I get them at the baseline levels and just rely on their elements or if I should get the stats up higher to deal flat damage as well. Thanks for any advice :) I know this may be a very opinion based question so try to explain a bit why you like to do what you do.

You can spend your points however you want. Once you obtain an acceptable dark weapon, you can respec all your stats points using a Soul Vessel (with the old Firekeeper in Betwixt).

Do some coop until you get a dark infusion from the Crow sisters trade, then infuse you favorite weapon.

also dont forget Dark Orb its you main spells, does ok damage, spammable and theres copies everywhere

It will all come down to your prefered play style. You can get by on hexes alone, but it sounds like you enjoy melee as well, so putting minimum levels into Str/Dex to meet weapon requirements, then infusing with dark, sounds like a good idea. But leveling Attunement is crucial to making a caster build work for long stetches of PvE, so you probably don't want to negelct that for too long.

I enjoyed playing as a pure caster, never putting any points into Str/Dex. And, as a hexer, you can easily change your focus to sorceries, miracles, or pyromancies, whenever you find a good new spell.

I hope some of that helps, but whatever you want to do, whatver is most fun for you, you can make it work.

Updating you STR to 8 and DEX to 12 is recommended. You can use a target shield and a rapier. These 2 will be enough for any of your melee needs. (Just infuse the weapon. Raw until your INT is 40-ish, then change it to dark/enchanted.) You will also be able to use a bow this way, so you'll have access to the most powerful weapon in the game, the poison arrow.

Like Obsidian Sun stated, the Silverblack Spear when used in a dark build absolutely wrecks. 2h it and you won't need a Stone Ring, use the Old Leo Ring for a huge huge damage boost when using it.

Other important stuff, Fire scaling its (Int+Faith)/2 thats mean as a hexer (really as anything with magic stat) you will have hight fire damage too.

You can get a free Dark Scythe from a chest near Manscorpion Tark, that's always my first grab after I kill Last Giant on a hexer build.
