Anyone else find this game ugly?
Played demon souls ps3, dark souls
and dabbled in some ds3 and bloodborne, and this game is putrid to me. Majula is beautiful but most of these areas are insanely bad looking. That forest area with the laughing curse pots are probably my strongest example, but also the drangleic castle had weird outlines I thought I was in Tron for a moment. The lighting is all flat too. Like everything is way too overlit that should be dark, like in that tunnel in majula.

Dark Souls 1 I think looks a lot better, even the remastered version looks better despite ruining the lighting. Demon souls had a more cartoony look but there's nothing that stood out to me as looking awful either.

Graphics aren't important to me and I still had a lot of enjoyment in this game, but I constantly see how many consider ds2 to be the best look dark souls, and I just can't agree with that at all. Is it because it's more colorful? Is that the sole reason? Dark souls 3 and bloodborne may only have a few colors in different shades but they use it so much better and it's less of an eye sore.

Why would you care about the graPhics it's all about the gamePlay.

I do mostly like the weird visual style and how the animations are personally, but I will say they are very inconsistent.

Something that's always been odd to me is how fluid some animations are, like mace attack animations, but then you look at the Estus chug animation and it looks very crude in comparison.

I mostly like the stiff animations and weird looking enviroments since it really settles in that feeling of being an undead imo, but I do wish it was a little more consistent.

Drangleic castle interior is probably the most unfinished looking place in the game.
On the other hand some zones like Dragon Aire, The dlc zones and Shrine of Amana look amazing.

Gee, I wonder if Drangleic feeling incomplete is because fromsoft decided to rush their developers into finishing the game 2 years earlier and with a fraction of their original budget.

Nahhh!!! I'm pretty sure that is not it, there must be a better explanation, something like "devs bad hur hur", yes that sounds about right.

I just miss the slow combat.
I cant enjoy DS3 & ER combat as much, its to over the top.
Also still neither have topped Shulva and Brume tower in level design for me.
At this point Im not even hype for ER dlc because I really didnt care for the open world.
Also rip fashion souls.

It does break immersion a bit. If the style were a bit different, Frozen Eleum Loyce and Shrine of Amana would be stunning!

Compared to what? DS3's grey and brown pallets and how everything is destroyed and/or cluttered and messy?

If only namco didnt force them to gimp the lighting engine they actually planned.

This game grows on you, it has late era ps2 visuals at times but the art design has a certain charm and charisma. I just started 3 and its clear the budget it much higher but its missing some of that manic SOUL of 2. DS2 reminds me of kotor 2, both controversial, unfinished, nigh masterpieces depending on who you ask.

same, but if look nexus mods and get new lightning mod + textures upscaled with original respect its very good
