I can't keep myself from abandoning this game
I'm quite new to the Souls series, so I figured I should start at the roots before moving to Elden Ring. I've finished Dark Souls 1 multiple times now. I absolutely loved it. Now, Dark Souls 2 is next. However, I'm half way through by now and I just have to force myself to continue. It's just so... bland and boring. Nowhere near as good as the first one.

I'm now at the area in the well where there's literally just darkness and a few wooden planks. Wow, very exciting. Next, there's a cave with an extremely unnecessary amount of poison spitting statues. Killing those is not hard - it's tedious. The area boss was a joke.

Like... is this really it? Am I missing something? Does it get better near the end or should I just continue with Dark Souls 3? My original plan was to do all achievements like I did in Dark Souls 1, but at this rate... I just can't.

Personally I restarted when I wasn't enjoying my current run anymore, if you are stuck in a spot you aren't enjoying you could try restarting and getting back there with the added skill and knowledge from the first time letting you have more fun on the bosses and the like to get your enthusiasm back.

That's the thing - I'm not stuck in any way. It just feels tedious to continue. Way too many enemies to kill, way too many traps to dodge and it goes on and on and on. Don't get me wrong, killing those enemies is not difficult per se - it just gets annoying pretty quick when there's so many of them. Dark Souls 1 did not have this problem :/.

But maybe you're right and I should try out another build that feels a little bit more refreshing. Completely restarting will not help with the achievements though ^^

Play ds3.
There you can just mash the dodge button past everything in a stage. :V

In my opinion you need to make it past the first 4 "great ones" area's before the game really actually picks up. This was the main reason for a lot of the hate of this game (and it being the most "out there" compared to the rest of the series).

But I believe the DLC's are some of FromSoftware's best honestly, and the final half of the game is actually quite enjoyable. But that's just my two cents.

Or just quit out and log in every minute to reset enemies.

To be honest, DS2 is widely regarded as the worst in the series, with good reason. If you're not having fun, definitely skip it before it kills your enjoyment of the series.

It had many interesting ideas, a few of which got improved on in ds3 and ER, but unfortunately the gameplay just feels off compared to the other souls games.
ds2 > er
Objectively wrong :)

Dark Souls 2 is definitely my favorite, 3 took just a bit too much inspiration from Bloodborne

But Dark Souls 1, whoo boy that game was outdated going in the wrong order, armored enemies invalidating like half of the weaponry was the biggest problem point for me.

At least you can put your Dark Souls 2 achievements on your résumé now, right?
So it was worth it?
Tell me where I can find a job that accept a résumé like that pls

I mean, *maybe* being one of the worlds best at multiplayer Civilisation might be a CV entry?

Not sure about console games like Dark Souls though :)

the amount of enemies is exactly why i like it
its not a boss fighting game with mostly empty world

It seems you already been through black gulch and beaten the Rotten boss. There is a teleporter to shulva (one of the DLC areas of the game) Try that out, these are pretty mutch the best areas of the game. If you don't enjoy that you will probably not enjoy anything in this game. Even though if you didn't like the forest of the fallen giants and sp on this game probably isn't for you and you should play something else.

I finished my first playthrough now including all three DLCs, and yes you were right, the DLCs were much better. However, the main reason I did not enjoy the game that much was actually that I was playing a pure caster build (after playing through the first game with pure melee, I figured I could use some variation). I switched to a melee build and boom, suddenly this game was quite enjoyable as well. Guess I'll do the second and third playthrough now.

When it comes to casting in souls games its most enjoyable if you have mixed.
Only rolling away and doing the pew pew gets stale.
Unless you do any kind of caster in DS1 or DeS where magic just flat delete everything with barely any effort making the player the real monster of the world.

Glad you enjoyed it the second time. I can relate to that as I have played both tank and archer for DS1 and tank for DS2 going to try archer DS2 now. Still haven't touched caster only yet as worried about running out of spells more than running out of arrows, but sure will get used to it as a challenge mode at some point.

When it comes to magic still not sure which would be best, going Sorceress pyromancer is obviously the most sexy, but I guess sorcery is the best choice.

Pyromancy I find kinda lacking in pve because if the limited casts that really butcher it in the dlc (rip against fume knight and his insane fire res), but in pvp pyromancy is the most fun on all spell schools.
Outcry has become one of my favorite pyromancies because if used right it can really mess up people. Getting opponents placed so they cant escape without luck and has no time to interrupt is great when it flings them in to the air.
