Grab yourself a Gyrm Greathammer and become Magical Girl Anvil Smash!
STR weapons in general in PvP will take some getting used to - I can provide a few tips - but are just as viable as DEX/Q (except certain scumbag tactics), and anybody who disagrees will get a headsmush with my Anvil-on-a-Stick.
Also, Giant Dad approves of STR builds.
other fun strength weapons(in my opinion) include, in no particular order.
the greatsword
gyrm greataxe
mastodon halberd
mastodon greatsword
fume knight greatsword
orma's and reeve's greatshield (not that great in pvp but hillarious non the less)
stone twinblade
curved nill greatsword (damage scales on what ng you are in)
rampart golem lance (only if you like lances)
Sure, they may look bad ass but they're way too slow and way too easy to punish.
I would suggest you the Estoc (fast strength weapon) in combination with a shield for parrying and a shadow dagger (Strength weapon) for riposte / backstabs.
Don't be fooled by the damage numbers of a weapon, keep in mind that the speed of it matters too!
Alert! ♥♥♥♥♥♥ detected while trying to sneak in! Bring out the Bass Canon!
If you mean you want to use slow weapons, the only things I would be wary of are 1-handing Ultra Greatswords against any player who can parry, as even I can parry it on reaction, and to offset your slow weapon with something fast like Caestus, or at least something so that you aren't just rolled on reaction all the time.
This guy is wrong!
Str builds are fun and have a wide range of viable and fun to use weapons. The biggest downside is that you wont hit ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if you just press R1/RB once you're in range. This will get you backstabbed a lot. This isn't a Dex build after all.
All big weapon are about baiting and exploiting mistakes your opponents make and for that you really have to get used to fight unlocked(imo). Most big weapons have quite large hitboxes on several attacks(the dunk attack of greathammers for example). Best genral advice one can give you is to try being as unpredictable as you can. Of couse having a somewhat faster off hand weapon can help out aswell.
You'll be betraying the whole idea of using a STR weapon and forever marking yourself as a coward.
If you go by that logic Str build shouldn't also use buffs and/or any kind of parry tools(excluding superparries ofc).
Shields are all right, as the strong man's way to defend against an attack is to block it.
Parry dagger... dunno, if you're not going to use it to poke people - it's fine.
But the main point of using a huge, slow weapon is to be skilled enough to be able to hit people with those slow attacks for MASSIVE DAMAGE. Not to stun them with a rapier and add your heavy hit on top like a 'smart' tryhard.
OP asked for tips on how to use a STR-build in PVP. We all gave him some basic advise and I mentioned supplements weapons, because OP himself is using a hammer along with Pursuer UGS (which works pretty good in PvP btw). There are a lot of nice str-based off hand weapons that go pretty well with big weapon, that even includes. OP shouldn't dismiss the idea just because you said that what tryhards do.
