Can't get to Mcduff

i just got the the area with mcduff, i know where he is and how to get to him but the barrel to blow open the wall just hits the wall and doesn't explode, am i doing something wrong?

You have to get lucky.

just use a torch just to make sure it works

Use a weapon that can stagger them, come from the pursuer and hit the mummy twice. Back off and the mummy should knock it down perfectly when trying to chase you.

Hit it with a heavy weapon or with a jumping attack, throw a firebomb at it, punch it with a pyro glove or a torch or a fire-damage-weapon
