Can't open Cardinal Tower Shortcut
Have they changed this? The explosive barrels next to the wall don't open it when hit, I've used my own firebomb on it and tried to get the solider who throws bombs at you to hit it but to no avail. When I played the original on the PS3 I'm sure I was able to open this by hitting those barrels

It wasn't changed. Did you try leaving by using the bonfire, then going back around and throwing a bomb at the respawned barrels? I can't think of a reason that it shouldn't work.

Yep just tried this, all the barrels have stayed blown up. Still can't get the shortcut open :(

Zone to Majula and then back, that should reset them. As for blowing them up, a firebomb from you or anything that makes them explode should do the trick. If it is still failing, I'd have Steam validate the files in the game.

What's your SM? I have an early game character that I created to help someone. It's possible that a phantom could do it. Probably not, but it's possible.

Ahh that did the trick thanks. I was only using the bonfire in the tower itself before. The barrels were back and managed to get the soldier to kindly blow them up! Thanks everyone else also for your suggestions.

That's actually what I meant at first, when I mentioned leaving by using the bonfire, sorry should have been more specific.

I am aware you fixed your issue, but, am I the only one who runs through all enemies and uses a torch to suicide bomb the opening? even on a Deprived Character Start I survive the hit.

That's risky though. The enemies would follow you and may catch up while you're on the ground. Simply killing the enemies then doing it, or simply spending 200 souls for a fire bomb, is much safer.

Yeah but then you don't get to be like the beserker from the second Lord of the Rings movie that blew up the wall!

I've done this a time or two, not with a deprived though. Its strangely satisfying, and even if you happen to die, your souls are right out the new window.

Yea, and I dont mind if I die there, dont need summons for any bosses in Forest of Fallen Giants or Lost Bastille, and yes, STRONGLY Satisfying.

You got to detonate them with fire (spells, weapons or throwing objects).
I'm only aware of 2 places in the game where you need this and at both places there are enemys next to it, who can do this for you.

Don't forget about the spot in Bastille where you get the archcleric's robe
