The solution I currently like the best is using Steam Input, since the fix for the deadzone is just applying a cross-shaped anti-deadzone. I didn't manage to fine-tune the parameters by myself to make it perfect, but there are a few Steam Input layouts for DS2 which simply take the default layout and apply a well-tuned anti-deadzone. You can try a few of those to see if it feels right for you.
Now that you mention it, I remember having trouble with that at first, I downloaded layouts which were supposed to fix the deadzone, but the left stick config was still the default one. I remember it was soon after the new BPM mode was released, so I don't know if something broke or what. Even now, taking a look at a few layouts with deadzone fix, they still seem to use the normal one.
Try the "DS2 Deadzone Fix" layout for the xbox controller by Silas, that one actually includes the deadfix solution for me. I haven't tried it on the game, but the stick config that it's loading for me is (only the values the differ from defaul):
- deadzone: cross-shaped
- range: 25-88
- anti-deadzone: 12287
You can also try to modify the default layout based on these values, they are the only ones that I see modified.
