Your thoughts on champions covenant?
In my first playthrough I was dissapointed with the difficulty in some places. Now in my second playthrough I learned of champions covenant and joined it... I'm getting my ass kicked and I actually like it better now lol.

It's a great covenant for those who enjoy difficulty or for farming. On ng+ I joined to hone my pvp skills, i.e. Parrying most weapon types, learning Iframes, rolling, I was mostly a pve player in dark souls. It's pretty much a covenant with no physical rewards but plenty of skill boost for yourself.

I enjoy the covenant. Much of the time I felt like the game while in the covenant was the "normal" mode while not being in it was the game's "easy" mode. but t be fair, I also started DS2 after having 1k hours in DS1 (and while yes there are some major differences between them, I often say they are basically two different games), so the only challenge I felt was adjusting to those differences.

Plus, the infinite respawns of normal enemies that come with it are nice for if/when you want to farm for something, bonus (unique enemies that don't respawn at all normally still don't respawn though, fyi for those who may not know).

It's an excellent addition to the game. It gives players seeking a challenge more of what they're looking for with rewards. It's also a way to infinitely respawn enemies.

Awestones-placement makes no sense though.

I went through the whole game including dlcs and didn't have enough awestones at the end to max the convenant.

I felt it insulting that I had to farm some stupid phantom in the graves in ng+ to get all awestones.

Also effigies are a problem, since coc-members can not coop as phantoms, and it's tedious to leave covenant, coop to regain full health, rejoin covenant, continue.

Do DLC enemies even reliable drop awestones? CoC-powered Drakeblood Knights reach a new level of hurt, but i have never seen them drop anything...
Unless you want to compete with a guy on the CoC board who has gathered 3000+ awestones, you use this covenant farming rares and get the "Vanquisher's Seal". Then get out.

No awestones in the dlcs at all as far as I remember.

And I did it for the challenge.

Edit: btw. the most difficult boss in coc for me was Elana by far.

As far as I can tell, awesones are simply added as additional random loot to many enemies (dropping at a similar or rare frequency). Which, yeah, does make leveling up in the covenant a bit more of a chore requiring a bit of farming.

Garunteed drop from invaders though.
