It's an optional boss and many of the optional / DLC bosses are a lot harder than the story bosses. Nashandra especially is a cakewalk... Aldia isn't much of a threat either.
You say that... then there's hexes. Don't use hexes. Any other (i.e. magic, miracles, pyro) will work.
The darklurker is hard only for physical builds that are weak in ranged combat and have low magical defense.
