Rapid weapon degradation
after playing the first game I noticed something very strange. My weapon loses durability VERY quickly. It seems I gotta rest at every bonfire, and sometimes swap weapons mid-zone. I reinforced the bastard sword but it still loses durabiltity quickly. Any help would be appreciated.

It's a 60fps bug that B-TEAM cant do anything about.

Yes, that's just a DS2 thing; they tried to make durability more important. There used to be a bug that made it run out even faster, but that was fixed. Even without the bug, it runs out fast.

If you're careful to use a second weapon / roll to break things, and use your real weapon only for combat, you usually won't run out. Being careful with it is just part of the game.

That's a lie, it's been patched ages ago. Go play Dark Souls II v1.01 if you don't believe it, there's a huge difference.

What remains is an intended feature. Not the best, but intended.

Never had the problen in ng, but it can realy become an annoying problem in ng+ and beyond. I had to use the ring that slows degradation the whole time in ng+.

there is a ring that willl slow degradation.
it restores whenever you rest at a bonfire.
if you have a +5 weapon, it should make it easily through the entire no mans wharf area.
after that it seemed to be come less of an issue, since there are bonfires everywhere.

also, some weapons have special moves that will cause them to degrade huge chunks at a time, like special weapons where one strong attack is like 25% of a weapons durability.
but yea, its a good idea to carry an extra weapon.

Bastar dSword isn't a low durability weapon; 60 is normal. You can find weapons with a little more, if you want 70 or 80, but not much more. But there will be rings that improve weapon durability, that you can use in areas where it's a problem. And Repair Powders. But most of the time there are enough bonfires that it's fine.

I forgot to mention hitting walls; it runs through durability. It's best to be careful.

This is a good point; the stronger your weapon is, the fewer hits it will take to kill things. That's probably a big part of why durability feels better later into the game.

Durability is always going to be a concern to some extent, unless you use the toughest weapons in the game (I don't think I'd have the patience to break a smelter hammer even if I wanted to).

Keep 2 weapons that you enjoy upgraded and ready to use, instead of just 1, and you'll be fine.

If you don't hit walls and dead bodies it's alright from one bonfire to the next/to a boss/whatever else.

I mean if a medieval knight was hitting walls and copses his sword's edge would be non-existant after a few minutes aswell...

I use that sword and almost never run out of durability. You need to be careful with the 1hr2, since you slam the sword into the ground it does extra durability damage.

2 handing seems to help since you don't slam the sword into the ground every other swing.

The bstrd sword is also my favourite weapon ATM, and durability has never been an issue. Well, apart from a couple of invasions, maybe, and me sometimes wondering into some green swamps..

But those are really just minor concerns, considering the rest of the challenges you'll be facing. It's a hard and frustrating game if you're new to it, but if you keep at it, you'll surely be rewarded at some point. Just like the time you finished Kung-Fu Master..
