PvE? Yes, they're amazing in relation to their very low requirements.

PvP? Not so much, because low range, slow startups and just not a very good PvP moveset.

Between the two, I'd pick the mace. Lower requirements and a bit higher damage. The morning star has bleed instead, but bleed isn't very useful at all in a weapon of this type.

Thanks for the answer! Another question. Can anyone help me get through heide's tower? The white knights and big knights are raping me, I cannot even reach the dragon. I've done forest of giants allready that was easy. But I've been stuck in this area for like 3 hours. Should I go somehwere else?

You need to tell your Soul Memory for people to know if they're at all able to help you or not. SM decides the matchmaking in this game.

The dragon route is optional. If you can't make it, carry on into the tunnel after the Dragonrider boss. You can return to the dragon and the cathedral later with higher level and gear.

And yet another alternative is to kill the Pursuer in the forest of fallen giants and continue that way, though you'll be missing an entire optional area.

Ah okay. My level is 48. That's what you mean by SM right? I have called the pursuer allready actually, that was a dead end I believe?

No, the level doesn't matter. The SM is the total number of souls you've acquired with your character.

After the pursuer there's a bird nest right before the dead end. Try interacting with it.

Oh cool, I didn't know that was a thing. So SL are not relevant anymore when matchmaking like it was in DS1? My SM is 125120 btw.

The SL matters only in arenas. For the entire rest of the game, it's the SM alone that decides the matchmaking.

Thanks for the replies so far. Also I just skipped the dragon part and I'm now in the wharf area having a much easier time.

for the dragon boss. or any other boss it is really easy mode when you summon people and/or use phantoms. I don't like to play like that but it's up to you if you want it or not. If you want to solo dragon get some endurance and run fast to him to avoid being hit by first flame breathing attack. Then just go behind him and hit him, swap sides (legs) so he cant stomp you and thats pretty much it. Also run away from that part when he gets up into the air. run back where you came from and repeat when he lands.

Hammers are underrated. Their moveset isn't bad, actually. The damage is alright. They destroy shields. They give a ♥♥♥♥ about poise and hyperarmor. They've a newb-PvE-stigma and people underrate the Mace severely when I face them (okay, I'm wearing Drangleic + Vengarl's, but still).

Everything is viable if you're good enough to make it viable, but it's not a weapon type that i'd recommend for a newbie to start PvPing with.

At least this newb would get better. That would certainly not happen if you give him a katana or rapier and a buff.
