DSII: Scholar of the First Sin: where is white knight in Forest of Fallen Giants?

I was following a couple different walkthroughs and both mention getting this sword from the white knight in the Forest of Fallen Giants. Then I found a walkthrough for Scholar of the First Sin and there is no mention of the white knight. I take it he doesn't exist? I'm playing Warrior and everything I've read says to get his sword. If he doesn't exit, just use the mace I found? Obviously, first playthrough, thanks for any help.

it's a vanilla thing i'm pretty sure. it's supposed to be in the area with a tree in the middle and all those hollow soldiers pretending to be dead right after you get past the river when entering the forest.

He's not there in SotFS. Almost all heide knights are now in heide's tower.

Ok thanks. I don't know if I can take them out at my 50% health penalty. I'm getting really good at dieing ... and I'm afraid to use the effigy since everyone says they're rare.

Oh and I'm out of throwing knives, so any tips on getting up the stairs in the Forest with 50% health appreciated.

Build type? Best option is wiping every 12 iterations of the mobs and then all is clear to proceed to next zone. Ended with level 85 by this method, after countless hours of play though...
