I'm at a loss for beating the old chaos
I'm utterly confounded by this place, and i haven't even made it to the boss yet. Before anyone asks, I have 3 of the friendly loyce knights, but their contribution aside from closing the gate has been extremley limited. They usually do not draw enemy aggro, deal poor damage, and have bad ai. I like the concept a lot though. That being said, i'm unable to kill the knights quickly enough before a whole new wave spawns, and at that point i'm repeatedly ganked. I've tried parrying, but im usually murderd before I can get off a ripost. Same with stunlocking and using greathammers to pancake. I am just unable to kill them fast enough, especially since the friendlies just derp around and fight whomever they please. I really want to beat this without summoning, but it's looking pretty bleak atm. Any strats are very welcome, thanks.

I'm pretty sure you were meant to summon for the Ivory King boss fight. There's always lots of people looking to farm some loyce souls, and if the enemy has a gank squad, why can't you?

Check out this speedrun at minute 125 and forward to see no summon strategy: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zsK3hm4qKZ8

Charred ivory king was meant to encourage summons to begin with. As was mentioned previously, people are always wanting to farm loyce souls, which have an abysmal drop rate for hosts, on top of the fact that the knights will stop spawning eventually in SotFS, whereas they were infinite spawn in vanilla. White/gold summons have an exponentially higher droprate for souls. It is possible solo, but typically takes a very prepared approach. My biggest suggestion for a solo run is to make sure you've got your weapons and armor upgraded as high as possible, carry lots of consumables and have your adaptability set for max iframes in rolls.

I soloed that boss a few days ago, totally recommend you to get the fourth knight to help you. My weapon was a battle axe +10, elite knight armour set (except for the helmet, I look more badass without it - fashion souls forevah), SL around 155.

For how long have you been trying? The fight seemed impossible to me as well at first, but I got used to it eventually and started rekting them.

Try to always stay in group with your knights and make use of enemy knights' low poise (two hits with my battle axe always staggered them).

What weapon are you using? I have never summoned for Ivory King other then farming souls, so you may just not be doing enough damage, or maybe it was because I was NG+4 with a maxed Curved Nil... oh baby how I miss you..
