Lucatiel died during a boss encounter, I ALT+F4 the game - still saved?
Do I now have to start from scratch and guide this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless NPC through three further boss fights?

Just summon her again and fight the boss. So long as you didn't kill the boss, you can still redo the fight with her. Instead of alt+f4, you can just use a homeward bone next time.

I read that you need three consecutive boss kills without her dying to "complete" her quest. I already carried her through the Old Sinner and the Rotten, now since she died during the Rotten NG+1 fight I thought I could avert nullyfing the quest progress by quickly exiting the game (before it saves her state). What I wanted to know is whether I now actually really have to do three boss fights instead of one.

I've never heard that it needs to be consecutive. Though I've also never had trouble with her surviving (I've found her to be one of the more useful NPCs to summon tbh)

My experience is exactly the opposite, unfortunately. She is borderline useless. Incapable of dodging attacks, deals little damage. Also has a tendency to run off, run in circles and hit the air with her sword.

I can verify that as false. I have had her die during boss fights and was forced to homeward bone out as a result, and still ended up progressing her storyline to completion. And yes, in my experience, she's a pretty bad summon. Her only use really is as a damage sponge.

Thanks for confirming that... you just saved my day. Also found another person saying this (on the Steam forums - she died once inbetween several boss encounters but said person still got it). Just wondering why this is falsely stated on the Dark Souls 2 Wiki; until now it has proven to be quite reliable.

wikis are fan made, so all the information they contain is gathered and assembled by players trying to figure things out from gameplay. They are not infallible. There are also 3 different wiki sites (all fan made, all by different people). Wikia, wikidot, and wiki.fextralife

Checked all three of those to see which one was inaccurate and none of them say that she must never die.

Is there a 4th wiki I'm unaware of? ign.wikis perhaps? (never been there until just now)

"You must however, make sure she survives each boss encounter in order for it to count towards her personal story. If the following conditions are met, the player can meet her at Aldia's Keep, wherein she will award the player with her armor, weapon(greatsword) and mask. Remember: The point of time when she survives three times in a row is not important. She can die multiple times before she survives three times in a row." from http://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/Lucatiel+of+Mirrah

The last sentence made me uncertain

That could be worded better, but it just means that she has to be alive when the boss dies for it to count. Her dying in the middle of a fight and you bailing with the boss still alive to restart the fight has no bearing on her storyline.

Ah, I see, thanks for clarifying that once again :)

No problem! Also, you can try equipping the red eye ring (sold by the cat in Majula) to draw the bosses attention to you. This may help keep Luca's simple bum alive longer.

Oh look, it's fextralife! What a surprise that this wiki provides wrong info!

/sarcasm

Better use the wikidot. Seriously.

It wasn't wrong, it was just worded poorly. I do agree that wikidot is the best of the three, though.
