PC Controls are so bad its not even funny
Well, I loved dark souls 1, it was one of the best games I have ever played even though i only played it very recently.

I have now moved onto Dark souls 2 and can safely say the controls suck so badly.

The PC controls for a keyboard and mouse are so bad its not even funny and half the commands dont even work properly.

This would be fine if you could rebind them properly but so far i have not found a way to do this without having to selecet from a rediculous list of ctrl and alt + buttons.

Am I missing something or is there no way to rebiind to any of the unused buttons ?

an xbox controller or eqivalent is highly recommended

I don't understand.
KB/M controls are fully re-bindable. Just hit ESC to bring up the menu and look for "Key Bindings".

In fact, the KB/M controls for this game are actually working, unlike in DkS1(without the mouse fix).

That being said, in this day and age, a controller for PC is still highly recommended, not just for Dark Souls. There are quite a few games 'n genres with much more intuitive controls when played with a controller.

The problem with the keybinding is you have to select from a list of preselected options that are all more or less Ctrl+key or Alt+key etc, which seems really dumb.

I have no desire to play with a contoller, if im going to play something with a controller then I just play xbox or Playstation.

I use KB/M for all the Dark Souls games and I never had to select from a list like that. If your mouse has additional buttons it's even better. Are you talking about the mouse controls for actions? I disabled most of them.

If you think Scholar has bad controls then let us go back to a time when DS 1 was released on PC...

DS2 got realy good PC Controls compared to DS1.
Only big Problem is the autoswitch target crap when you move the Mouse a bit to fast, which will kill you alot of time.

Sadly iam back with the Controller, without this Camera Bug i would stick to the Mouse&Keyboard Controls because you has so much more control over your Charakter.

Default mouse sensitivity felt way to high for me so I reduced it. I never had that problem with target swap. Maybe you should reduce your mouse sensitivity and see if it's better?

DSFix cured the problems with 1 for me and it was very enjoyable, enough for me to persivere to the point where it wasnt a problem at all as I could customise the controls much more. I never really played it without DSfix and wouldnt have played it without it.

This so far just seems like a complete slog thats not enjoyable at all due to silly controls and customisation options, why does ever key rebind option have to be a Shift/Ctrl/Alt + mouse button ? thats just farcical. I could put up with it and use them as they are sure, but what for, this game just feels very insipid and like I am fighting the controls and UI not the game. Knowing this is a souls game I just dont feel it is worth trying to play a difficult game with pitiful controls and configuration options.

I understand it gets easier to play with a controller, but I would again rather play something else. I dont use a controller for PC games and never will.

Keybind options do not force you to use some kind of weird key-combination.
You can re-bind anything however you want in this game, if you're using KB/M.

Or do you mean, you can't bind, let's say "X" and a mouse button together?
That would be an oddly specific personal issue you have with the controls.

"a keyboard and mouse"

That would be your problem.

Maybe I am doing something wrong then, when I go to key bindings. It gives me a list of actions and their keys.
If i click on one to rebind it it gives me a list of options to choose from, all are basically a mouse button + ctrl/shift etc, or double click + ctrl/shift. All i can do is select one, presseing any other key does nothing.

Or I can select "nothing" to unbind the action from any keys.

I cannot see any way of binding say P to use an item for instance etc. (thats just an example, not actually a key binding i want)

I've just checked again and if i wanna bind "Use Item" to "P", i just click on the action in the "Key Bindings" menu, the previous key for "Use Item" is now blank and all i have to do is to press "P" once to bind it to "P", so "P" now pops up under "Use Item"

The letter "P" somehow sounds dirty.

Do you have any third-party KB/M tools running in the background?
